The Xbox

Welcome to your weekly devotional! Today, we will talk about not being jealous of other people.  At some point in our lives we will all be jealous of someone else.  Let’s start:

“How was your time at Mark’s?” asked Dad as Ben walked in.

“Okay,” said Ben as he hung up his jacket.

“What’s wrong?” asked Ben’s dad.

“I just really want Mark’s Xbox! It’s so cool and you can play Minecraft and all these other games! I wish I could have it and play every day.”

Ben’s dad sat down and said, “Jealous are we?”

Ben quickly looked up. “NO!….okay…maybe a little bit.  It’s just so cool.”

Dad took a sip of his coffee. “James 3:16 says that where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and evil.”

Ben looked up. “Huh?” he said.

“Let’s put it this way, jealousy makes things fall apart, and people end up not getting along.” Dad took another sip.

“YIKES!” yelled Ben. “That sounds bad!”

Dad said, “It is. Being jealous is very bad. It is very hard not to be because that’s just how we are. But it won’t help you live a life of contentment.”

“Okay, Dad,” Ben said, “I’ll try not to be as jealous of it. I’ll just ask for one for Christmas!”

Dad smiled. “Good plan!” he said and rubbed Ben’s head.

You see, jealousy is not best for our lives.  It can lead us to not enjoy the good things we do have. We have to stop it if we can. Try going a full month without wanting what someone else has, and see if you feel more at-peace in your life.

Thanks for reading and have a great day!
