Walking in Victory Scriptures
Overcoming Trials

12 “Walking in Victory Scriptures” for Life’s Battles

The Window Trail leads me through a stand of tall hemlocks, and I pause on a boulder to peer through the feathered branches. The valley beyond this veil is vast, shrouded in cyan blue like a mystical otherworld.  I’m in the woods today because I’ve been feeling discouraged.  I’ve brought my backpack Bible, and as I walk, I meditate on several “walking in victory Scriptures.”

“Walking in Victory Scriptures” for Life’s Battles

Perhaps you’ve also been feeling discouraged in some realm of your life.

If so, here are the Scriptures that encouraged and inspired me on my walk and in the days beyond.

12 “Walking in Victory Scriptures”

1. Romans 8:31 (ESV)

“What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?”

For those who follow Christ, all condemnation and shame have been removed.  At times, we face battles in life.  When these battles come, we can remind ourselves that God is for us because we are found in Christ.  Furthermore, if God is for us, those who stand against us cannot compete with his power.

2. John 10:10

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”

Have you been feeling discouraged or defeated?  Has a difficult situation destroyed something precious to you?  Perhaps you’re walking through the dark valley of grief today.

If so, you might be facing an attack from the enemy.  Satan comes to steal, kill, and destroy.  If you see his destruction unfolding around you, press into Jesus.  He is stronger than Satan.

Speak the words in these victorious Bible verses out loud.  In the name of Jesus, verbally command the enemy to leave.  You have the authority of Christ.

3. 1 Corinthians 15:57

“But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Jesus stands in authority over every force in the temporal and heavenly realms.  Followers of Jesus possess his authority.  If you are feeling defeated today, claim the authority of Jesus.

Pray a prayer like this, “In the name of Jesus, I command all spiritual forces of darkness to leave and go where Jesus sends you.”  I pray this prayer often, especially when I sense I am under attack.

Thank Jesus for equipping you with all you need to walk in victory.

4. Philippians 3:14

“I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”

The Apostle Paul wrote these words from a prison cell.  This verse is often used as encouragement for reaching our goals; however, this was not the intended message.  More accurately, we can endure life’s most painful trials because Jesus gives us strength.

5. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10

“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

Do you feel weak today?

If so, you are in the perfect position for God to move in your life.  God displays his power when we come to the end of our human strength and turn to him.

6. Ephesians 6;13

“Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.”

Ephesians 6:10-18 describes the complete armor of God.  We can “put on the armor” by speaking God’s Word out loud (the sword of the Spirit), holding up the shield of our faith and trust in God, guarding our minds with the helmet of salvation, and more.

For a victorious life in Christ, put your armor on daily and stand against the enemy’s attacks.

7. 1 John 5:4

“For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.”

How do we overcome the worldly mindsets and patterns that weaken and discourage us?  We remember that our faith is stronger than the world’s systems.

One of the key elements in this battle is learning to trust God when our circumstances don’t make sense.  This trust is at the heart of faith, and with this kind of faith, we can walk in victory.

8. 2 Corinthians 2:14

“But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere.”

God wants to use us to spread the good news of his love to others.  When this happens, the fragrance of the knowledge of him expands.  God has given us everything we need to spread this good news.  When this news is spread, we help others find victory over the darkness.

9. Luke 10:19

“Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.”

Jesus gave this authority to his followers before he ascended into heaven, and he gives it to us today, too.  We can stand in his authority when troubles arise.

10. Proverbs 21:31

“The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but the victory belongs to the Lord.”

We each have a role to play when it comes to walking in victory.  We prepare for the battles, but we trust that the outcomes are in God’s hands.  I like to think of this as doing my best to steward what is in front of me and trusting God with the results.

Do your best to prepare for what God places in front of you, but recognize that the final outcomes are not yours to control.

11. 1 John 4:4

“Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”

We walk in victory when we remember that the One who is in us is greater than the enemy.  Satan prowls around looking for people to devour, but the One who lives in us is stronger.

12. 2 Corinthians 10:4

“For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds.”

Last, we can walk in victory by remembering that we aren’t merely fighting in our human flesh.  God has given us all spiritual authority to destroy strongholds and overcome the works of the enemy.

If you aren’t sure where to begin, ask God to guide you today.
