10 Affirmations for Spiritual Growth With God

Do you ever feel frustrated because your spiritual growth seems slow?  Maybe you want a closer relationship with God, but the busyness of your life makes this feel unattainable.  If so, you are in good company.  When this happens, speaking affirmations for spiritual growth can be helpful.

A few days ago, the first ivory snowflakes fell onto the lawn, and I considered the shifting seasons.  I asked myself, Did I accomplish what I hoped for in this past season?  How are my relationships with others?  How is my relationship with God?

As the snow fell silently, I couldn’t help but feel like I’d failed to reach some of my goals.

I used to think a time would come when I would arrive at some sort of long-awaited destination in my relationship with God.

There have been noteworthy moments, but for the most part, I often sense that I’m not yet where I want to be.

Perhaps you can relate.  Maybe you told yourself you were going to stop overeating, yelling at your kids, or binge-watching Netflix this year.  Maybe you said you were going to go back to church, start reading your Bible, or pray more often.  Now, as the year inches closer to its final month, you haven’t changed in the ways you hoped for.

10 Affirmations for Spiritual Growth

Watching the first snow of the season, I decided to extend grace to myself.

My journey has been imperfect, and my life remains imperfect.

I mess up almost as often as I get it right.

I miss opportunities to extend kindness to others.

At times, I search for patience, and it’s nowhere to be found.

In light of all these things, I’m not giving up.  I’m speaking the following affirmations for spiritual growth over my life.  I encourage you to claim these words, too.  Be sure to read to the end of today’s post for a free devotional eBook to help you grow closer to God.

Inspiring Affirmations for Spiritual Growth

1. God will finish what he starts in my life.

We find this affirmation in the words of Philippians 1:6, which reminds us that God brings his work in our lives to completion.

I can trust that the Maker who knit me together in my mother’s womb won’t quit on me.

He’ll finish what he started.

Spiritual transformation takes time, but the promise is that he will finish it.  When I feel frustrated, I cling to what is true instead of clinging to what I feel.

2. I am growing in the grace and knowledge of God.

2 Peter 3:18 reads, “Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord . . .”

Every person is somewhere on a journey that leads either toward God or away from him.

Until we see God face to face, none of us have arrived at a perfected state.  What’s most important is that we’re continuing to grow closer and not inching ever so slowly away from him.

What’s most important in our spiritual transformation is that we’re continuing to grow closer and not inching ever so slowly away from him. #spiritualformation #faith #deepfaith Share on X

3. These trials are making me more mature and complete.

According to James, trials lead to endurance, and endurance leads to a kind of maturity that leaves a person complete, lacking nothing (James 1:2-4).

For this reason, we keep pressing through our imperfect lives and our imperfect relationships, and we trust that all of our trials will lead us to greater maturity. We remind ourselves that difficult times are always God’s invitations to grow.  Most of the deepest transformation happens in the wilderness.

4. God loves me exactly as I am.

God’s love for imperfect people was proven once and for all at the cross (Romans 5:8).

He loves me right now, at this step of my journey.

He loves each of us where we’re at, and he’s bringing us to completion. We’re simply called to keep pressing toward him.

5. There is no condemnation in Christ.

Romans 8:1 reminds us that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ.

When you fail and fall short, remind yourself that God is not condemning you.  Confess your sins to God.  Turn to him in repentance.  And shake off the sense of condemnation.

6. I am more than a conqueror through him who loves me.

Romans 8:37 reads, “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.”

When Jesus died on the cross, he attained victory for us.  The war is won.  Those of us who have received him as Savior and committed to following him are victorious in him.

We still face battles, but the war is already won.  Stand in this when you feel like you’re failing.

7. Nothing can separate me from God’s love.

Romans 8:38-39 reminds us that nothing can separate us from God’s love.

We cannot sin so greatly that God stops loving us.  God’s love will never be taken away from us.  Hold this affirmation in your heart when you feel defeated.  Rest in it when you feel shaken.

8. God delights in me and sings over me.

Zephaniah 3:17 tells us that God delights in us and sings over us.  He finds great joy in being with us, and he does not ask us to be perfect.  Soak in this affirmation today.  As a mother tenderly sings over her child, God looks at you warmly and sings over you.

9. God has given me everything I need for life and godliness.

Second Peter 1:3-4 reminds us that God’s divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness.  We will continue growing until we meet him face-to-face.  In the meantime, he continues to help us grow.

Claim the promise that God has given you everything you need to walk with him.  Then, watch for his provision.  He is with you, and he waits to make himself known.

10. My name is engraved on the palms of God’s hands.

Isaiah 49:16 teaches us that God engraves us on the palms of his hands.  This beautiful verse reminds us that God cannot forget us.  He pursues us and continues working in our lives always.

Do you feel forgotten by God today?  He will never forget you, and he will never stop loving you.  You are engraved on the palms of his hands.
