Bible Truth for Everyday Life

5 Inspiring Quotes to Help You Live Your Best Life

I sit on the deck as the ironweed bows its royal head in the late-summer breeze.  I could list my favorite memories from the summer, but it seems fitting to close this season by reflecting on the words others have spoken into my life. These five inspiring quotes to help you live your best life have challenged me to rethink the rhythms of my days, the ways I seek God, and my priorities.

These words remind me to keep watching and listening for God’s hand in every corner of my life.  I pray these words will challenge you to slow down and let God speak into your quiet places, busy places, and all the places in between.  He is always calling us deeper:

Inspiring Quotes to Help You Live Your Best Life:

1. “Are the ways you’re pursuing God through spiritual disciplines leading you to life-giving encounters with Jesus?”

A friend asked this question early this summer, and this question transformed my summer in the best way. When I realized I could not answer with an honest “yes,” I set out to find ways to pursue God which led me to encounter his heart.  For more on this journey, join me here: 5 Tools for When Your Quiet Time Is Boring.

2. “Those interruptions are your work.”

I encountered this quote as Pastor Ray Pritchard shared the following story:

In one of his books, Henri Nouwen talks about the pressure he felt when he was a university professor. Although he enjoyed teaching, he never felt he had the time to concentrate on his work because of all the interruptions. Even when he put a “Do Not Disturb” sign on his door, the students interrupted him anyway.

He said, “Everywhere I went, people wanted to talk to me.”

By his own testimony, Henri was upset because he felt like all the interruptions were messing up his work. But that changed one day when God said to him, “My son, be at peace. Those interruptions are your work.”

If only we could see that people are our work.

You Will Live Your Best Life When You Trust God With Your Days:

3. “When we step out in faith and respond to God, we need to trust he will take care of the rest.”

Debbie Kitterman’s latest book, the Gift of Prophetic Encouragement, has put the fire back in my bones when it comes to sharing my faith. Debbie challenges us to step out in faith and follow God in listening for his voice and sharing his encouragement with others.  I cannot stop thinking about this book, and it’s igniting a passion in my soul.

If God is calling you to step out in faith and respond to him in a way that’s beyond your comfort zone, you can trust that he will take care of the outcome.  Debbie’s book is available here!

Your Best Life Will Grow From a Firm Identity:

4. “When you know God is I AM, and you let your mind conceive that truth, He overpowers all the ways you tell yourself: I am not…, I am never…, I am going to…”

Kelly Balarie’s latest book, Battle Ready, is a powerful tool for training our minds to think new thoughts about old things. Kelly tackles the thoughts that plague and hinder us from living the fullest lives in Christ, and this book challenged me dig deeply into God’s Word and allow him to renew my mind.

We don’t step into transformed lives by chance; a transformational change happens when we learn to think new thoughts about old things.  Is it time for you to change the way you think in some area of your life?  This is a question worth asking in a quiet place as we step into a new season.

5. “I think I’m done raising butterflies; it’s stressing me out.”

These words flowed from the lips of Bekah, our young daughter. After two months of collecting eggs, gathering milkweed, raising, and releasing close to a dozen monarch butterflies, Bekah decided she’d had enough sometime around the middle of August.

Bekah reminds me to change course when my life is no longer working for me.  When the blessing becomes a burden, it’s time to reassess the commitment. Seasons change, and fighting to stay in a season that has expired won’t bless anyone.

A final thanks to Emily P. Freeman for the encouragement to step back and take a long look at my life every three months.  The challenge to contemplate what I’ve learned every season is a wonderful blessing.

I’m passionate about equipping others to encounter God in powerful and life-changing ways. When I’m not writing, you’ll find me hiking, jogging, exploring wild places with my three young children and husband, leading small groups, and mentoring younger women. A certified special education teacher, I am on leave from the classroom for a season of chasing frogs and playing in creeks with my little ones. Most of all, the compassionate love of Jesus has forever ravished my heart, and I'm emphatic about making his love known to the world.
