The One Truth You Need in Your Darkest Hour
Our little family is feeling just a bit threadbare as we step into this new season of darkness and cold, windy days. We’ve walked through deep waters over the past months, and we are weary. Perhaps you can relate. Maybe you need hope in your darkest hour, or perhaps you feel worn down by the daily grind of your life.
Let’s take a few moments to find hope to hold onto in our dark seasons together today.
In Your Darkest Hour, Turn Here
Winter feels like a dark hour for me. This winter feels especially dark.
It reminds me of some big bumps in the road of our lives, things that didn’t go as we hoped last winter. (Join me here for a glimpse into this journey.)
For some reason, one-year anniversaries pack a hard punch, and I’m not looking forward to remembering the dates of difficult things.
I stare at the bleak landscape on a foggy autumn morning that speaks of what is to come, and the words penned by a close friend come to mind: “We have to choose whether we’ll allow God to use our sorrow and pain to shape us into the image of Christ, or whether we’ll become brittle and easily shattered by the tragedies we experience.”
As the words echo in my mind, I pull out the book that carried me through our long winter last year. My friend Daisy’s words are a sweet consolation to my soul.
Somehow, God knew that I would need deep encouragement during our difficult season.
A Powerful Book for Your Darkest Hour
He allowed our difficult winter to coincide with the release of Daisy Townsend’s beautiful book Sarah’s Legacy, and the words woven into Sarah’s story pointed me to the truth time and time again.
I read an average of one work of fiction every five years. Among the dozens of nonfiction books on my shelves, Sarah’s Legacy is in a category of its own. Sarah’s Legacy is a captivating work of fiction, but it is more than a good story. Through years of wisdom, Daisy, my trusted friend and mentor, has woven profound Biblical truth into this story of heartache, loss, and triumph.
The book brought me to tears and had me on the edge of my seat. I intended to spend a few weeks reading it, but I could not put it down, and I finished it in just over a week. Among the greatest truths in this story is the ongoing reminder that we always have a choice:
We can choose to be hardened by life’s losses, or we can allow God to use the most difficult valleys to conform us to the image of Jesus.
Let the Trials Mold You to Look More Like Jesus
Thanks to Daisy’s reminder, and thanks to the ongoing ministry of God’s Spirit to my heart, we made it through our difficult winter without hardening our hearts. We emerged into springtime looking just a little bit more like Christ, and our trust in the Lord deepened.
When life gets hard, there is always a choice: Harden your heart and turn away from God, or soften and let him shape you to the image of Christ. #storms #hardship #hopeinChirst #trials Share on XAs winter stretches long arms into many parts of the world these days, a riveting work of fiction can be a healthy place to connect with God and enter into a story that will forever change your life.
Instead of spending mindless hours in front of the television this winter, I cannot say enough positive words about Sarah’s Legacy. Get your copy here today, and allow God to use your struggles to mold your heart into his image, even in your darkest hour.
