10 Anchoring Bible Verses for Uncertainty in Life
Somewhere along the blurred line between the lush days of summer and the frosty mornings of autumn, I stared out the window and realized we were stepping into an uncertain future. I’m a planner, and the uncertainty threatened to make me come unglued. I needed to find some anchoring Bible verses for uncertainty. Be sure to read to the end of today’s post for a free devotional eBook for uncertain times.
10 Bible Verses for Uncertainty
Opening my Bible, I began my search. As I scanned the pages, I considered my tendency to cling to control.
I reminded myself that God holds all things together, and he never worries about my uncertain future.
An Uncertain Future
You might be facing an uncertain future as well.
Maybe your “dream job” isn’t quite as dreamy as you hoped.
Perhaps you thought you’d found your life-long partner, and he left you for someone else.
Maybe you’ve realized you needed to pack up and move across the country for the second time this year.
As I stepped cautiously into autumn, the Lord slowly began to teach me.
He showed me that when my hope is in my circumstances, my hope is planted on shifting sands. However, when my hope is in Jesus, I can step into uncertainty with the promise that Hope walks with me.
Bible Verses for Uncertainty in Life:
God is teaching me how to face uncertainty with faith and trust. Below are 10 Bible verses for uncertainty in life. You can find your anchor in these words today.
1. Hebrews 6:19
“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” NIV
We can rest in Jesus because he goes before us in all things. He is an anchor in life’s storms.
Lasting hope is fixed on a relationship. As you look at your uncertain future, remember your anchor. Resist the urge to anchor yourself to your circumstances. Ask Jesus to be your anchor in uncertain times.
2. Titus 3:5
Titus 3:5 reads, “he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.” NIV
Jesus saves a believer upon profession of faith, but his saving power does not stop working in the moment of salvation.
The original language uses the word “sozo.” Sozo implies that Jesus continues to deliver us, heal us, save us, and carry us through life’s most challenging circumstances.
Jesus is your salvation. He continues to deliver you today and beyond.
3. Exodus 14:14
Exodus 14:14 reads: “The Lord your God will fight for you; you need only to be still.” NIV
Sometimes, I simply need the reassurance that God’s got this. I need to stop trying to orchestrate every detail of my life. I need to steward my assignment and leave the outcomes in God’s hands.
God fought for his people thousands of years ago as they faced uncertain circumstances, and he will fight on my behalf now.
Cling to this promise when you need reassurance.
4. Psalm 84:11
It’s easy to look at what others have and feel like God’s holding out on us.
In these moments, we can remind ourselves of the words of Psalm 84:11, “For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.”
5. Psalm 138:8
Cling to these words for yourself as well as for your loved ones: “The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me.” NIV
A few years ago, I said goodbye to my two-year-old daughter and left for a mission trip overseas.
I’d never left little Bekah for more than two nights. Through the experience, I learned that what God calls me to do is not only his best plan for my life, but it is also best for the lives of my loved ones.
God’s best for you will be his best for your loved ones as well. #trustingGod Share on XBekah and I missed one another terribly. Nevertheless, she made special memories with her dad and all four of her grandparents. Our time apart deepened our bond as well as our appreciation for one another.
God’s best plan for my life was also best for everyone involved. It wasn’t easy. But we are wise to remember that God’s best plan is rarely the easy path.
6. Psalm 37:4-6
This Psalm reads, “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday.” ESV
When we delight ourselves in God, making him our greatest source of joy, he aligns our hearts with his heart. His desires become our desires, which means he gives us the desires of our hearts as they align with his will.
If your future feels uncertain, ask God to show you how to find delight in him. In the meantime, he will change your heart.
7. Psalm 9:10
God will not forsake you: “And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.” ESV
Psalm 9:10 reminds us that when we put our trust in God, he will not abandon or forsake us.
Are you having trouble trusting him amid uncertain times? Ask him to help you grow in trust.
8. Psalm 28:7
“The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.” ESV
Do you need a shield or a source of strength outside yourself today?
Turn to God.
He surrounds you like a protective shield and wants to fill you with his strength.
9. Proverbs 3:6
“In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” ESV
In the original language, the word for “acknowledge” implies more than glancing toward God. When we acknowledge him in all our ways, we learn to “do life with him.” Our relationship shifts from head knowledge about him to the experiential and relational knowledge that can only be found through experiencing life alongside someone else.
Turn to God as you walk through this time. Ask him to reveal himself to you. In the process, you will come to know him more deeply, and he will make your paths straight.
10. Jeremiah 29:11
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” ESV
God’s plans for you are good and full of hope.
Don’t lose hope as you step through these uncertain times. There’s nothing God cannot use for good.

As you stare down an uncertain future, press close to God’s heart. Stand on his promises. He has good things in store for you. Best of all, he promises to go ahead of you and with you.
