15 Scriptures on Connecting With God When Life Is Full

God’s greatest desire is for a relationship with each of his children.  He is a personal God, and he created us because he wants to commune with us.  Today, we’ll explore a list of Scriptures on connecting with God as we aim to respond to his pursuit.

I’ll also share a personal story, including six practical ways to connect with God when life is full.

Scriptures on Connecting With God

Let’s see what the Bible has to say as we explore these Scriptures on connecting with God.

Scriptures on Connecting With God

1. Jeremiah 29:13 (ESV)

You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.

This powerful promise assures us that when we seek God, we will find him.  God is always pursuing us.  For this reason, when we turn to him, we find him waiting with open arms.

At certain times in my life, I’ve been frustrated by this promise.  I’ve sought God and had a difficult time sensing his presence.  This is where some of us get stuck.  At these times, it’s important to remember that we don’t have to feel God’s presence for this promise to be true.

Whether we sense God or not, he is with us.  Cling to this even when you cannot feel his presence with you.  This is walking by faith, and God blesses those who walk by faith.

2. James 4:8

Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.

Sometimes, God seems distant because we have not been seeking him.

Do you regularly carve out time to talk to God and rest in his presence?  If not, consider when you might find even a few minutes to do so.  When you draw near to God, he will draw near to you.

3. Psalm 27:4

One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple.

David wrote this Psalm as his heart cried out for God.  Pursuing God’s presence was his “main thing.”

I have a gentle question for you today: What’s your main thing?

4. Psalm 139:7

Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence?

Psalm 139 is a beautiful depiction of God’s intimate knowledge of each of his children.  He aims to comfort us as we remember that we cannot flee from his presence.  He is always with us to guide, defend, protect, and fight for us.

5. Psalm 73:28

But for me it is good to be near God; I have made the Lord God my refuge, that I may tell of all your works.

Where do you turn for refuge and comfort at the end of a long day?

God is with you always, and he is inviting you to turn to him.

6. 1 Corinthians 3:16

Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?

God is not just with us, he is in us!  For those who follow Jesus, the Spirit of the Living God dwells within us.  For this reason, we can never outrun him or hide from him.  He wants to guide us, help us, support us, and comfort us.

7. Genesis 28:15

Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land. For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.

God made this promise thousands of years ago, and the promise stands for us today as well.  God never abandons his children.

8. Joshua 1:9

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

Do you need the reminder that God will not leave you?  Memorize this verse and speak it when you feel alone and afraid.  Your God is with you always.

God is a good Father, and he wants us to experience his healing, deliverance, and replenishment.  Most of us have learned that we cannot heal, deliver, or refresh ourselves; we need God to do this work within us.  I invite you to read to the end of this post and find a free copy of my devotional eBook, The Lean Into Grace Devotional: An 8-Day Devotional for Healing, Deliverance, and Replenishment.

9. Matthew 5:8

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

The pure in heart follow God in all their ways.  They guard their hearts and minds and seek to live upright lives.  In turn, they see the hand of God moving in their lives and will one day see him face-to-face in heaven.

10. Psalm 23:4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Are you walking through a valley today?

God is with you.  He wants to guide and comfort you.

11. 1 John 4:16

So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.

Are you living a life of love?  Live a life of loving God and others, and God will dwell within you.

12. Revelation 3:20

Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.

This is a message for all of God’s children.

At times, we turn our backs on him.  Meanwhile, Jesus pursues us.  He wants a relationship with all of his children.  Have you responded to him as he knocks at the door of your heart?

13. Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

God is with you, and he wants to direct your life.  Find his direction by asking him to help you trust him more, seeking his wisdom instead of relying on human understanding, and looking to him always.  He will guide you.

14. Psalm 27:1

The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

God’s presence is like a light for our paths.  Trust that because God is with you, you don’t need to live in fear.

15. Isaiah 43:2

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.

Are you facing a difficult situation in your life?

God is with you.  He will help you cross the raging rivers of life and walk through every fire with you.

Let’s now apply these Scriptures on connecting with God to our lives!

Applications of These Scriptures on Connecting With God

The house quiets as the school bus rolls away, and I take a moment to pause and review the past few months. I try to do this a few times each year as a way of assessing my rhythms.  It’s my way of stepping back to consider how to stay connected to God when life is full.

Golden beams of sunlight pierce the windowpane, and I consider the ways God has been moving in my life.

I see the calling to be more disciplined in my thought life.

I’ve been learning to see what’s right and stop focusing on what’s wrong in my days.

I’ve been learning to be more intentional in my relationships and more strategic in my prayers.

How to Stay Connected to God

As I reflect, a word forms in my mind.

The word is deliberate.

I glean the deeper meaning immediately.

God is calling me to a more deliberate life.

I pull out my journal and begin listing the practical applications that go with living a deliberate life, a fulfilled life.  These ways of living not only lead to fulfillment, but they also help me stay connected to God throughout my days.

Perhaps you need these reminders today, too.

Let’s talk about how to stay connected to God when our lives are full.  Be sure to read to the end of today’s post for a free eBook to help you experience God’s presence.

How to Stay Connected to God: 6 Ways

1. Slow your pace.

I spend far too much of my life hurrying.

The struggle with hurrying was amplified nine years ago when I became a mother and needed to plan my schedule around the all-encompassing job of feeding my little one.

I hurried as quickly as possible to complete as many tasks as possible between the frequent feedings that made up most of my waking moments.

The struggle continues now as I aim to squeeze as much as possible into my days and completely forget about slowing down to enjoy the quiet moments.

Unfortunately, a hurried life is not a deliberately lived life.  A hurried life feels productive, but in our hurry, we often forfeit the moments that matter most as we rush through them with undivided focus on getting to whatever is next.

If you want to learn how to stay connected to God, begin by slowing your pace.  Rushing will always pull you out of the awareness of his presence.

2. Put presence over production.

I tend to hurry through the quiet moments of my days as well.  I hurry through tender moments with God because I’m eager to dive into the measurable tasks of my days.

Throughout the past year, I’ve learned God wants me to meet with him in ways that fill me with life. This can’t happen when I’m in a hurry.  It doesn’t happen when I’m focused on what I’m going to do next.

I find that when I aim to be present to the people and tasks in front of me, I am also more aware of God’s presence, more connected to him.

A fulfilled life puts presence over production. #presentliving #slowingdown #hurry Share on XScriptures on Connecting With God

3. Offer the gift of a safe space.

For over a year, I’ve been writing about hospitality.

Hospitality is the art of creating spaces where others know they belong.

We can be hospitable no matter where we happen to be.  I offer hospitality every time I speak a kind word to the waitress.  I offer it when I pause in the parking lot to help the elderly woman with her groceries.

Go into the world and look for the needs around you, and you will step into a life of greater fulfillment.  You will also encounter the Living God as you aim to share his love with others.

These first three insights can help us learn how to stay connected to God amid our busy days.  Let’s also look at several ways to pursue him in our quiet moments.

Stay Connected to God Through Spiritual Disciplines

4. Begin each day by immediately looking toward God.

Looking toward God before climbing from bed every morning helps me stay connected with him throughout the day.  For several years, I repeated Psalm 118:24 every morning immediately after waking up: “This is the day the Lord has made.  I will rejoice and be glad in it.”

I don’t always repeat this verse, but I try to begin my days by greeting God, thanking him for his goodness, or taking a moment to surrender the upcoming day to him.

(Read here for more thoughts on speaking God’s Word first thing every morning.)

5. Spend time in God’s Word.

Reading the Bible helps us stay connected to God because his Word is living and active.  I’ve learned to read slowly and create space to enter into God’s Word almost every morning.  This practice helps me stay connected to God throughout the day.

I often imagine myself immersed in the scenes described in the Bible.  Imagining I’m the blind beggar along the road, an onlooker watching Jesus perform a miracle, or a disciple watching Jesus teach helps me to connect with Jesus in a fresh way every time I read in this way.

6. Listen to worship music throughout the day.

God has used worship to heal me, uphold me, and keep my eyes on him in challenging moments.   I’ve been reminded that entering into his presence through worship can change the trajectory of an entire day.

Worship lifts our eyes off of our temporal struggles and helps us focus on God’s power, goodness, faithfulness, and provision.  Most of us know how it feels to be “stuck inside our heads,” ruminating over concerns, or letting feelings of defeat debilitate us.

At times, breaking free from these mental blocks feels impossible.  When this happens, we desperately need to connect with God by fighting the battle in the spiritual realm—above human reasoning.

Worship is warfare.  It pulls us above worldly concerns and fixes our eyes on the greatness of our God.  This is where breakthrough happens.
