10 Transformational Scriptures on Alignment With God
I sit by the sliding glass and force myself to stay for ten minutes of silence and semi-solitude. I’ve been sitting by this glass intermittently for several years now, trying to incorporate rhythms that will teach me how to have a deeper relationship with God. Today, I pull out my Bible in search of Scriptures on alignment with God.
Scriptures on Alignment With God
Our lives are transformed when we come into alignment with God. As God shapes our hearts to look more like his heart, our desires begin to mirror his desires. We see breakthrough in our prayers because we are praying according to God’s will.
Let’s look at a list of powerful Scriptures on alignment with God.
Scriptures on Alignment With God
1. Romans 3:23, ESV
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
The first step for alignment with God is seeing ourselves as we truly are. Because we live in a fallen world, we have all fallen short of God’s perfection.
Sin pulls us out of alignment with God and his holiness. But this is not the end of the story.
Romans 6:23 reads, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
We all deserve God’s punishment. However, by receiving Jesus as the Savior and Lord of our lives, we are forgiven and made right with God. Jesus is the vessel leading us into alignment with God.
2. 2 John 2:15
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
We align ourselves with God by finding our delight in him instead of finding our delight in things of this world.
God wants us to learn to find our comfort and joy in him. As we learn to seek him in these ways, our lives come into alignment with his plans for us.
3. Hebrews 10:26
For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins.
When we deliberately allow sin to remain in our lives, we show that we are not aligned with God.
Alignment is a life-long process. We will not be perfect in this life; however, God will continue to align our hearts with his more and more.
4. 1 Corinthians 11:1
Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.
Paul encouraged the believers in the Corinthian church to imitate him just as he imitated Christ.
Studies of the brain show that the primary way we are transformed is not through reading or trying harder. We are transformed by imitating others. This is why the company we keep is so important.
We imitate Christ by reading our Bibles and learning to follow his example. We also grow in alignment by spending time with mature people, thus imitating them.

5. Matthew 6:24
No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other.
This verse refers to trying to serve God while also pursuing wealth. It also extends far beyond money. We cannot serve God while idolizing other things.
Ask God to show you the idols in your heart. Are you serving your image, your job, perfectionism, achievement, material possessions, comfort, or something other than God?
If God reveals something, repent of it and ask God to bring you into alignment with him.
6. Matthew 19:29
And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands, for my name’s sake, will receive a hundredfold and will inherit eternal life.
Jesus often spoke in hyperbole, using extreme examples in his speech as a way of proving his point.
This verse does not mean we should hate our families. Rather, Jesus taught that in comparison to our love for him, our love for others should pale in comparison.
7. John 14:6
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Again, we come into alignment with God through Christ alone.
A relationship with God is impossible apart from Christ.
8. Philippians 4:6
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
The cares of this world threaten to pull us out of alignment with God. Part of being aligned with God is experiencing his peace.
We can experience this peace by praying about everything. As we pray, God covers us with the peace that surpasses understanding.
9. Psalm 37:4
Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
What is your greatest delight?
Make God your greatest delight, and he will align your heart with his in such a way that you will want what he wants.
When your desires align with God’s desires, you will receive the desires of your heart.
10. Proverbs 16:9
The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.
Lastly, this verse reminds us that we can make plans, but God will guide us. He is a trustworthy guide, and he will lead us into his perfect plans for us.

Let’s now apply these Scriptures on alignment with God to our lives by asking ourselves several questions.
Applications of These Scriptures on Alignment With God
In his study Spiritual Simplicity, Chip Ingram offers three practical questions that can help us come into alignment with God. Let’s begin by looking at three misguided questions we often ask ourselves:
1. “How did I do?”
This question draws attention to our performance-driven culture.
All too often, I find myself asking this question after a speaking event, social outing, or even a day of parenting my children.
2. “What do I possess, and what do people think?”
Most of us want to be liked and admired. We might rely on our material possessions, our appearance, or our God-given talents.
3. “How much do I give?”
We tend to measure our effectiveness for the kingdom of God by how much we are giving away our time, energy, attention, and physical resources. Imagine what might happen if this question were no longer at the forefront of our minds . . .
If we want deeper faith, it’s time to ask three different questions:
Three Questions for Alignment With God
1. Instead of asking, “How did I do?” ask, “Who am I becoming?”
Sit with this question about who you are becoming. You might be surprised by the whispers of the Spirit. Think of the ways you treat the people in your life. Consider the rhythms of your days and your attitudes.
Are you becoming more irritable, anxious, or perfection-driven? Or are you growing in gentleness, kindness, compassion, joy, and peace?
2. Instead of asking “What do I possess, and what do people think?” ask, “How am I using what I’ve been given?”
Are you using your talents to promote yourself, feed your flesh, or influence appearances? Or are you using your giftings to nourish others, impart truth into the lives of others, and share your resources?
3. Instead of asking, “How much do I give?” ask, “Why do I give?”
Ask yourself: “Am I giving to others because I want to put another notch in my spiritual belt? Or am I giving out of the overflow of God’s love in me?”
Giving with pure motives looks like giving for the sake of sharing God’s love. This kind of giving does not promote self, seek the approval of others, or use giving as a means to solidify an unstable identity. It is joy-filled giving for the simple sake of being the hands and feet of Christ in the lives of others.
Sit with these questions and allow God to show you your honest answers. He wants a deeper relationship with you, and these questions will help you. #relationshipwithGod #FollowingJesus #SeekingGod Share on X
I encourage you to sit with these questions for a while. Don’t hurry through them. Take your time. Create space for God to speak into them. And then return to them periodically. You might just find these questions leading you to a deeper relationship with God.
