Rejection Is God’s Protection: 8 Truths to Stand on
Last year, I faced a crushing setback in my writing career. I almost walked away from writing to pursue a different line of work. Yet as I sorted through my emotions, one truth became clear: Often, rejection is God’s protection.
Perhaps you’re facing painful rejection today, too.
I encourage you to give yourself time to grieve the loss of your hopes and expectations. Be kind to yourself as you process your feelings and give yourself space and grace to lament what was lost.
In the meantime, remind yourself of this truth: God closes doors in our lives for our protection.
What If This Rejection Is God’s Protection?
Often, God’s protection feels like disappointment and frustration. He permits difficult breakups and shattered hopes as he protects us from paths that are not best for us. He closes doors of opportunity for jobs, relationships, and dreams because he has better plans in store for us.
God closes doors of opportunity for jobs, relationships, and dreams because he has better plans in store. #Godsprotection #faith #shattereddreams #Godsplans Share on XGod is protecting you today as well. He goes before you and behind you, and he is worthy of your trust.
Do you feel disappointed with the way some part of your life has turned out?
I gently encourage you to ask God to show you how this disappointment might be his way of protecting you.
In my case, the closed door in my writing career forced me to change directions. I walked away from one dream, and God led me to pursue a different dream, a dream that turned out to be far more powerful and fulfilling than the first dream ever could have been.
I learned, firsthand, that often, rejection is God’s protection.
He can do this for you, too.
The loss of the relationship might be his way of creating space for something different, something better. The loss of the job, dream, or hope might be his way of making room for something better for you. Watch for it. He is working in your life, and his plans for you are good.
Rejection is God’s Protection: 8 Bible Verses
It doesn’t feel like rejection is God’s protection as you walk it out. Here are some Truths to cling to as you ask God to help you trust in his protection. Stand on these verses when your feelings falter. Also, be sure to read to the end of today’s post for a free devotional eBook to lift your head in tough times.
1. Genesis 50:20, ESV
As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today.
Joseph spoke these words to his brothers. When he was a young man, Joseph’s brothers sold him into slavery. Years later, after Joseph had been promoted to a prominent governmental position in Egypt, God used Joseph to save his entire family during a famine.
Joseph forgave his brothers and saw God’s greater purpose in his brothers’ rejection.
When others reject us, we can follow Joseph’s example and ask God to help us keep soft, forgiving hearts. We can also trust that God can use even the most painful rejections for our good and his glory.
2. Romans 8:28
And we know that for those who love God, all things work together for good.
As you navigate this rejection, remember that God can work all things together for good. He wants to use this loss to lead you into the greater plans he has for you.
God won’t waste your pain.
Keep your heart soft and trust that he has not stopped working in your life.
3. Isaiah 64:8
But now, O LORD, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.
God is using this disappointment to shape you, mold you, and transform you into the image of Jesus.
Perhaps your difficult situation is the result of something that feels like a personal failure or mistake. Trust that God can use any failure for good.
Press into him. Find comfort in him. He is not disappointed in you. He is at work.
4. 2 Thessalonians 3:3
But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.
Does it feel like the enemy has been given free rein to destroy your life?
Rest assured that God is with you. He is strengthening you. He led you to these words today because he wants to help you overcome these feelings of defeat.
You might be having a tough time trusting him today. If so, ask him to help you grow in trust. This is a prayer he will answer.
5. Isaiah 41:10
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Maybe you’re facing fear as you walk through this rejection. If so, cling to the promise that God is upholding you. He will help you, strengthen you, and sustain you. He will never leave you.
6. Psalm 57:1
Have mercy on me, my God, have mercy on me, for in you I take refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed.
God is your safe place of refuge. He wants to cover you and protect you from the fiery arrows of the enemy, the hurtful words of others, and the thoughts that lead you to defeat.
Run to him.
Ask him to hold you and comfort you.
His heart breaks when your heart breaks. He counts your tears and weeps with you. He is relentlessly for you and won’t let you down.
7. Philippians 1:6
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
Does it feel like this rejection might derail your life?
Friend, God will complete the work he has started in your life. Your story isn’t finished. Trust that he is still working.
8. Isasiah 55:8
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.
God’s ways are higher than our ways, and his thoughts are higher than our thoughts. His ways often don’t make sense to us.
Ask God to give you the faith to trust in his plan. His plans for you are good, filled with hope.
Keep your heart soft toward him. Resist the urge to blame him or take offense.
He is for you.
He won’t waste the pain you are feeling today.
