Overcoming Trials

15 Bible Verses on Deliverance From Strongholds

A row of house sparrows adorns the deck railing out the window.  Against winter’s white curtain, they are captivating tufts of movement and life.  I need these beacons of hope today as I open my Bible in search of Bible verses on deliverance from strongholds.

Bible Verses on Deliverance From Strongholds

Yesterday, a close friend opened up about a struggle she’s been facing.   “I sense there’s a spiritual element to this, and I desperately need God to deliver me from this stronghold,” she whispered through tears.

Most of us face strongholds in life.  Strongholds include habits we can’t seem to break, emotions that refuse to lift, and obstacles that seem to follow us wherever we go.

If you are facing a stronghold that refuses to break, here are the verses I found and sent to my friend.

15 Bible Verses on Deliverance

1. Psalm 34:17, ESV

When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles.

Call out to God.  He hears the cries of his children and wants to deliver you.

2. Psalm 107:6

Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.

This verse illustrates God’s desire to deliver his children from all sorts of distress.  Again, call out to God.  He is waiting to help you.

3. Psalm 50:15

And call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.

When God delivers us, he also changes our hearts.  As a result, our lives bring him glory.

4. 2 Samuel 22:2

He said, “The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer.”

Do you need a safe place to weather the storm surrounding you?

God is your Rock. He is a fortress surrounding you.  He wants to deliver you.  Turn to him and declare this truth.

5. James 5:16

Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.

God delivers us from the power of sin when we bring our sins into the light with one another.

Do you need deliverance from sin?

Bring your sin into the light with someone you trust.  You will take one large step toward deliverance.

6. Galatians 5:1

For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

Every day, we choose to submit to the slavery of sin or the freedom we find in Christ.  Bear in mind that some of our sins even seem socially acceptable.

Perfectionism, workaholism, and people-pleasing might even earn us praise.  Yet we are called to walk in the freedom found in Christ.  Ask Jesus to lead you in this freedom today.  He will direct you.

7. Romans 6:14

For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.

God imparts his grace when he works in our lives to do what we cannot do for ourselves.

Do you feel stuck in some area of your life?  Ask God to impart his grace.  When he does, he will begin leading you toward freedom.

8. Joel 2:25

I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the hopper, the destroyer, and the cutter, my great army, which I sent among you.

This promise from the book of Joel is a promise for us today as well.  God wants to restore what has been stolen and lost in our lives!  Turn to him, seek his face, and watch for his restoration.

9. Matthew 10:1

And he called to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every affliction.

For those who are in Christ, we stand in the authority of Christ.  He has given us authority over all unclean spiritual forces and afflictions.  We can stand in his power and cast these spirits out in his name.

10. James 4:7

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

We resist the devil by speaking God’s Word, standing on his promises, worshiping, talking to God in prayer, and keeping our eyes on Jesus.  When we resist the devil, he flees from us.

11. Mark 16:17

And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues.

Jesus gives power to those who believe in his name.  We can operate in this power.

12. Colossians 1:13

He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son.

God has delivered us from darkness and placed us in his eternal family.  We can stand on this promise when we need deliverance.

13. Mark 1:25

But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent, and come out of him!”

Just as Jesus rebuked unclean spirits, we can speak out loud and rebuke spirits that come against the truth of Christ.

14. 2 Thessalonians 3:3

But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one.

God is faithful to his children.  He protects us and gives us strength to stand against evil attacks.  We can stand on this truth.

15. Isaiah 41:10

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Commit this verse to memory and speak it in the face of fear.  God is with you.  He will strengthen you.  He will uphold you.Bible verses on deliverance

Apply These Bible Verses on Deliverance to Your Situation

God’s Word teaches that God is with us to deliver us.  He also teaches us that by standing firm against the devil, we find victory.  Those of us who follow Christ have also been given the authority of Christ to drive out darkness.

Whenever I sense that there is a spiritual stronghold in my life, I begin by speaking out loud and telling the enemy to leave in Jesus’ name.  I then continue by declaring God’s promises.

Here’s an example: “In the name of Jesus, I command any spirits that do not submit to his authority to leave and not come back.  I declare that there is no condemnation in Christ and I am not bound by any evil forces.  I stand on my authority in Christ as I break this stronghold in Jesus’ name.”

Additionally, let’s talk about how to apply these Scriptures to the battles we are facing.  These verses teach us the following four lessons about life’s battles:

1. Jesus sees every battle we face.

Satan isn’t sneaking behind God’s back to inflict our bodies and attack our relationships.

Jesus is fully aware of the enemy’s schemes.

He is also sovereign over Satan’s schemes.  Jesus hasn’t missed a moment of the battle you are fighting.  Best of all, he is with you.  He wants to empower you and help you stand firm.

This truth leads us to the next insight for when we are under spiritual attacks.

2. Jesus prays for us when we are under spiritual attack.

Jesus lives to intercede for us, and he prays that our faith will not fail in the fires of life.

When Jesus died on the cross, he won the war against the enemy.  The battles we face now are somewhat like guerilla warfare.  Jesus won the war against evil when he died on the cross and came back to life, but we continue to stand against fiery darts that are still flying.

3. This spiritual attack isn’t really about the circumstances you can see with your eyes.

The enemy isn’t looking to destroy our possessions or make us sick solely for the sake of suffering.

Satan hopes our suffering will harden our hearts.

When trials lead us to offense or bitterness toward God, Satan wins.  However, when our trials lead us closer to the heart of our Father in dependence, we win the battles.

4. Run to Jesus, and you will win the battle!

You are in a battle between fear and faith.

What will you choose?

Friend, you can find victory over any spiritual attack by clinging to faith instead of fear.  Allow fear to rule you, and you lose the battle.  Run to Jesus’ arms and ask him to help you trust him, and you will win this battle!

You might not feel like you can trust Jesus in this situation.

Run to him anyway.

Ask him to help you trust him.

His grace is sufficient when your trust is weak and your faith feels flimsy.  Lean into him, and in the very act of leaning into him, you slay the enemy with the weapon that was meant to destroy you.

You might not feel like you can trust Jesus with this situation. Run to him anyway. Ask him to help you trust him. His #grace is sufficient when your trust is weak and your #faith feels flimsy.Share on X
