Good Morning Prayers and Blessings to Start Your Day
The yard is muddied with footprints and tire tracks, and a warm front blows in from the south. I’m thankful for the early thaw. As I gaze out the window on this winter morning, I feel inspired to write a list of good morning prayers and blessings.
Good Morning Prayers and Blessings
I invite you to join me in praying through these good morning prayers and blessings. Also, be sure to read to the end of today’s post for a free devotional eBook to help you stay in step with God every day.
Good Morning Prayers and Blessings: Start Your Day With God
1. Thank God that he is with you and ask him to help you recognize his presence in your life today.
God is always working in our lives. Sadly, it’s easy to become so caught up in managing the details of our days that we overlook his presence.
God wants us to join him in what he is doing on earth. This is how we bring God’s kingdom to the world.
Ask God to give you spiritual eyes to see where he is working in your life today.
“Heavenly Father, thank you for inviting me to join you in the work you are accomplishing all around me. I pray for spiritual eyes to see where you are moving in my life so that I might join you. Open my eyes to your presence and help me slow down. I want to learn to give thanks in all circumstances because I see you at work. I want to learn to pray without stopping by living in a constant conversation with you.”
2. Ask God to align your heart with his heart.
When God aligns our hearts with his heart, he works within us and shows us the needs surrounding us. We are better equipped to fulfill his purpose.
God can also use the prayer of alignment to heal us as we recognize the areas of our lives that are out of alignment with him.
“Lord God, thank you for your love for me. I confess that I tend to wander from you, focusing on my desires instead of seeking your face. Please align my heart with your heart so that I can follow you. Align my will with your will. Align my body with the health you desire for me and reveal any hidden motives or selfish ambitions. I want to live in alignment with you.”
3. Ask God to help you see others the way he sees them.
God wants every person to come to saving faith through Christ. He cares about all people.
At times, we can lose our focus in these areas. For this reason, it’s important for us to ask God to help us see others the way he sees them.
“Father, thank you for your immense love for us. I confess that I am easily agitated. I can be irritated by other people, and I resist building connections with people who are different from me. Lord, change my heart. Fill me with your love for the people surrounding me. Help me see them the way you see them, through eyes of love and compassion.”
4. Thank God for his gentle strength and ask him to help you embody it.
The idea of gentle strength my seem like a paradox, but this kind of strength radically impacts the world.
A person with gentle strength lives with nothing to prove to others. This person can give love freely without needing or expecting love in return. A person with gentle strength is not afraid of rejection or defined by failure.
This person knows how to respond to angry people and is not easily offended.
At the same time, people with gentle strength aren’t afraid to take a stand for Truth and justice. Our world needs more people with gentle strength.
“Lord God, thank you for embodying gentle strength when you came to live among us on earth. You are gentle and humble. I confess that I am easily agitated, and I am not always gentle. When I feel weak, I posture behind a facade of strength or even sarcasm. Lord, change my heart. Help me become a person of gentle strength. I know this is not a work I can do myself. You must do it within me. I receive your grace as I lean into this process today.”
5. Thank God for the confidence you find in Christ.
Many people in this world put their confidence in their skills and abilities. Imagine how different the world would be if every follower of Christ found confidence in Christ.
Ask God to help you turn away from self-sufficiency, finding your confidence in the Lord.
“Lord, thank you that you are fully capable of carrying me through every situation I face today. I confess that I tend to put my confidence in my skills and strength. Rather than finding confidence in myself, please help me embrace my weaknesses today. Help me see these areas of my life as platforms where you want to make your power known. Help me find my confidence in you.”

6. Ask God to help you be a peacemaker wherever you go today.
Our world needs more peacemakers, people who aim to unite and build community.
Ask God to make you a peacemaker in your home, workplace, church, and community.
“Father, thank you for the relationships in my life. At times, these relationships are strained. Please equip me to be a peacemaker wherever I go today. Help me make peace among my own family members. Enable me to be a peacemaker at work. Equip me to go into my community as a voice of peace and unity.”
7. Thank God for guiding your words and giving you wisdom.
God promises to give wisdom to those who ask for it (James 1:5).
Ask God for wisdom today. Ask him to give you the words to speak. Pray that he will guide your actions to align with his wisdom.
“God, thank you for the promise to give me everything I need for a godly life every day. Please fill me with your wisdom so that I might know how to speak to others and offer sound advice. Guide my words, attitudes, and actions. I want all I say and do to bring honor and glory to you.”
8. Pray to be a vessel of God’s love.
When asked to name the greatest command, Jesus said, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.”
When asked the second command, he said, “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Pray that you will be a vessel of God’s love.
“Lord God, thank you for your love for me. I come to you today to receive your love so that it might flow through me and impact others today. Fill me to overflowing. Help me press into you all day so that I bear the fruit of the Spirit. Help others encounter your goodness through me, experiencing your love through me.”
9. Ask God to help you turn to Jesus in challenging moments.
We all face difficult moments daily.
Ask God to help you turn to Jesus as your source of hope in difficult moments. Ask him to help you respond with wisdom.
“Lord God, thank you for going ahead of me into this day. I know that nothing surprises you. As difficult moments arise, help me turn to you for wisdom before reacting. When I feel discouraged, help me find my hope in Jesus, not in improved circumstances. Use every difficult moment to shape me into the image of Christ.”
10. Pray for an eternal focus today.
Ask God to help you keep your eyes on eternal matters.
It’s easy to get pulled into the temporal circumstances around us. We do need to tend to these matters, but God calls us to tend to them with an eternal perspective, remembering that this earth is not our home. An eternal focus also helps us respond in love rather than reacting in emotional moments.
“Heavenly Father, thank you for the promise that all followers of Jesus will one day be with you for eternity. I long to see your face and worship in your throne room. Until then, help me live with eternal focus. Help me respond to others in love and remember that this earth is not my home. I put my hope in you.”
