God’s Timing for Your Healing: 15 Bible Verses About Restoration
The hills tell a story as their ruffled crests flog in the summer wind. I remember when these hills were blanketed with sparse glimpses of crusty snow, interrupted by tufts of beige grass and patches of mud. Today, the lush summer meadow seems to speak of the power of restoration. Today, we’ll explore 15 Bible verses about restoration as we seek God’s healing.
I invite you to join me as I stroll down the country road and seek God for restoration. Then, we’ll turn to God’s Word.
God’s Timing for Your Healing: 15 Bible Verses About Restoration
As I walk down the road, I’m reminded of Ecclesiastes 3:11. God makes everything beautiful in its time.
This truth pertains to the farmers’ barren fields as well as our barren hearts. When life is tough, trusting God’s timing for our healing isn’t easy. Most of us prefer to rush through the wilderness seasons of life instead of walking in step with the Spirit.
I’m notorious for offering God timelines: “I’ll dig into these old wounds, but please don’t let this take more than four weeks because our schedule is about to pick up, and I won’t have time for this when that happens.”
Much to my dismay, God’s timeline rarely matches mine.
God knows that the work of true restoration takes time. Let’s see what God’s Word says as we look at 15 Bible verses about restoration.
Then, we’ll talk about being patient as we lean into the healing process.

Bible Verses About Restoration
1. Joel 2:25-26, ESV
I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the hopper, the destroyer, and the cutter, my great army, which I sent among you. “You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, who has dealt wondrously with you. And my people shall never again be put to shame.”
Just as God restored his people after the destruction caused by the locusts, he wants to restore what has been destroyed in our lives.
He is inviting you to turn to him and seek his restoration today.
2. Psalm 51:12
Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.
David wrote this Psalm after repenting of his sins against Bathsheba and her husband, Uriah.
When we turn away from sin and turn toward God, he waits to restore us.
3. 1 Peter 5:10
And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.
We all face suffering in life.
After we have suffered, when the suffering has shaped us to look more like Christ, God waits to restore and strengthen us.
4. Job 42:10
And the Lord restored the fortunes of Job, when he had prayed for his friends. And the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.
Job faced greater suffering than most of us will ever endure. He lost his children, his home, his health, and his wealth.
Instead of consoling Job, his friends blamed him for his suffering, citing the principle of retribution and insinuating that Job must have sinned to deserve his suffering.
Before God restored Job, he asked him to forgive his friends.
When Job forgave them, his health, home, wealth, and family were restored.
Do you need to forgive someone who has offended you so that God can restore you? Talk to God about this.
5. Acts 3:19-121
Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus, whom heaven must receive until the time for restoring all the things about which God spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets long ago.
Again, this verse reminds us that repentance is the first step toward restoration with God. When our hearts are turned away from sin and turned toward God, he is eager to restore us.
6. Psalm 91:4
He will cover you with His pinions, And under His wings you may seek refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and bulwark.
As you wait for God to heal and restore you, turn to Jesus for strength.
He will be your shield.
We can trust God to restore us as we rest in the shelter of his presence.
7. Deuteronomy 31:6
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.
God will never leave you or abandon you.
He is with you right now as you wait to experience his restorative power. Ask him to help you become more aware of his presence as he fills you with his peace.
8. Isaiah 41:10
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
When life is tough, God promises to stay with us. He wants to give us strength.
God is upholding you with his right hand. Rest in this truth today. You are not alone.
9. Romans 8:38-39
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
These powerful verses teach us that nothing can take God’s love away from us.
You might feel like you’ve disappointed God. Maybe you’ve been ignoring him because you figure he’s disappointed in you or frustrated with you.
On the other hand, perhaps a difficult loss in your life led you to question God. Disappointed and disheartened, maybe you turned away from God. Perhaps you assume he turned away from you, too.
With all the gentleness in my heart, I encourage you to soak in the words of Romans 8:38-39.
Nothing can ever separate us from God’s love.
Nothing you do, no matter how horrible and shameful it might feel, can ever take God’s love away from you. He is a good Father, and he has not rejected you. He is looking for you and waiting for you, watching for you and missing you. His arms are open, and the moment you turn toward him, he will run to you and embrace you.
10. Isaiah 66:13
As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you . . .
God longs to comfort you in the same way a loving mother comforts her child. Loving mothers hold their children through the long hours of the night. They sing over their children and care for their most vulnerable needs.
God loves you and offers this same comfort. He is waiting for you to turn to him and receive his comfort.
Turning to God for comfort might look like taking a long walk and asking him to fill you with his peace. It might look like lying in your bed and imagining him holding you or listening to worship music and imagining yourself in his glorious presence.
God wants to comfort you today. Ask him to show you what to do as you seek this comfort. He is waiting to show you.
11. John 16:33
I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.
We all face trouble in life. Some of us immediately revert to crisis mode when troubles come. We’re caught off-guard and filled with anxiety.
Meanwhile, Jesus promised that we will all have trouble in life. Difficult times aren’t the exception; they are the norm.
Nevertheless, Jesus didn’t speak these words to discourage us. He wants to be our source of peace in life’s troubled times. He invites us to draw near to him and find courage and strength as we remember that he reigns over every authority on earth.
12. Jeremiah 31:3
I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.
God pursues us with his everlasting love. His love never fails and never runs out. There is nothing you can do to change his love for you.
Right now, he is looking for ways to draw you closer with his kindness.
13. Psalm 57:1
Be gracious to me, O God, be gracious to me, For my soul takes refuge in You; And in the shadow of Your wings I will take refuge until destruction passes by.
Imagine a baby bird curled up in the shelter of its mother’s wings. God is with you, and he is offering you shelter in the storms of life.
He will restore you when the time is right.
14. Psalm 36:7
How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God! And the children of men take refuge in the shadow of Your wings.
What do we find in the shelter of God’s wings? We find lovingkindness.
Lovingkindness is God’s tender love in action. For strength and healing, run toward God’s love.
God is on the move in your life. He wants you to see his love in action as it unfolds around you: in the kindness of a stranger or friend, in the beauty of a sunrise, in the gentle whisper of the wind, and perhaps most of all, in the promises of his written Word.
15. Hosea 6:1
Come, let us return to the Lord; for he has torn us, that he may heal us; he has struck us down, and he will bind us up.
God allows us to suffer for the purpose of helping us grow in spiritual maturity. During these times, we can trust that he ultimately plans to heal and restore us.

Let’s now apply these Bible verses about restoration to our lives.
Applications of These Bible Verses About Restoration
Let’s talk about trusting God with the process of restoration. Here are some truths to cling to as you wait for God to restore you.
1. Healing is a process.
Most of us would prefer instantaneous healing, but healing is a process. It’s more like peeling the layers of an onion than slicing open a melon.
God most often heals one layer at time. We might think we’ve reached the deepest layer, when, years after an incident occurred, we realize there’s another layer.
Because God cares about our hearts, he is tender with us as we heal. He knows we need space and time. Healing cannot be hurried.
2. Waiting builds character.
Waiting on God’s timing as he restores us builds character. As we follow the words of Psalm 27:14, “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord,” God helps us develop maturity.
Waiting requires surrender. God shapes us as we recognize that he is in control, and we are not. In this way, we experience the power of restoration over time, recognizing that we cannot heal ourselves. God is the Healer, and he wants to teach us to depend on him.
This process is humbling, but we grow spiritually by releasing self-reliance in exchange for dependence upon God.
3. God teaches us to trust him while we wait on him.
Perhaps the greatest growth takes place as our faith grows during times of waiting.
Faith is trusting God in the unknown, and God deepens our trust in him at times when we don’t understand his ways.
The most transformational season of my life have been times when I’ve frequently repeated the prayer, “Lord, I don’t understand what you’re doing, but I choose to trust you.”
Like parents who delight in the trust of their young children, we fill God’s heart with overwhelming joy when we express our ultimate trust in him.
God, I don't know what you're doing, but I choose to trust you. #trust #faith Share on X
4. We don’t have to wait passively.
Lastly, it’s important to recognize that we don’t have to sit idly while we wait. We continue doing whatever God last told us to do. We also stay close to him by reading the Word and praying. During this waiting, we also meditate on these Bible verses about restoration.
This is also a good time to pursue relationships with others and seek godly counsel from wise people.
Meanwhile, we can trust the promise found in Romans 8:28: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him.”
We live with the expectation that God is working even when we cannot see him.
God Wants to Restore You
God’s timing is always perfect, even when we don’t understand why he makes us wait. If you are pursuing God for restoration today, keep seeking him. He promises that those who seek him find him.
