10 Spiritual Warfare Prayers for Such a Time as This

The spiritual climate surrounding us is becoming increasingly evil.  As we aim to shine God’s light into this darkness, let’s not forget that spiritual forces move in response to our prayers.  Today, we’ll join together in praying 10 spiritual warfare prayers for our personal lives and for the world around us.  Be sure to read to the end of today’s post for a free eBook to help you live in victory.

10 Spiritual Warfare Prayers

At times, we might feel tempted to assume that our prayers don’t make an impact on the world around us, but this is not true.  A friend recently reminded me that some parts of God’s perfect will are contingent upon us.  Certain parts of God’s will are guaranteed to happen regardless of our actions: Jesus will return and destroy evil forever; all believers will spend eternity with him; signs will mark the end of times.

Other parts of God’s perfect will only happen when we play our part.  We will only step into God’s best plans for us if we obey him and aim to walk with him.  We have the choice to ignore him and miss out on his best for us.

In a similar sense, certain events will only take place if we pray.  It’s not up to us to untangle how this works; it’s up to us to commit to praying.

As we watch the forces of evil moving in our world and in our personal lives, God calls us to pray.

Here are 10 spiritual warfare prayers to pray as we seek God’s healing and deliverance, both personally and globally.

Spiritual Warfare Prayers for Healing and Deliverance

1. Claim your authority in Christ.

Romans 8:37 reads, “In all these things, we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”

No matter what you face today, you are more than a conqueror through Christ.  All authority in heaven and earth belongs to him.

If you love Jesus, you have this same authority because you are found in him.  Claim it and stand on it.

Here is a prayer: “In the name and authority of Jesus, we pray for the forces of destruction and evil to submit to the will of Jesus.  We take back the ground that has been claimed by evil and humble ourselves before the Lord.”

2. Rely on the power of the Holy Spirit.

Zechariah 4:6 reads, “‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ says the Lord of hosts.”

The Holy Spirit lives inside every believer.  Press into this power and ask God to make his power known in your life.

Here is a prayer: “By the power of the Holy Spirit, we pray for God’s people to rise up and take a stand against the evil that prevails around us in the world.  Unify our hearts and bring us together in one spirit, enabling us to stand together in love as we fight against the evil surrounding us.”

3. Acknowledge the work of the enemy.

John 10:10 reads, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”

How can we tell when Satan is on the move?

He comes to destroy.  If you are facing the threat of loss, death, or destruction of any sort, Satan is at work.

Stand against all destructive works of the enemy by declaring that you have abundant life in Christ.  Begin speaking the verses from this list out loud.  Refuse to be intimidated.  You have all authority when you speak out in Jesus’ name.

Here is a prayer: “In the name of Jesus, we command the destructive spirits in our homes, communities, and nation to depart.  We speak the healing power of Jesus over these places and plead the blood of Christ, who overcame evil when he rose from the grave.”

4. Pray for humble, contrite hearts

Psalm 51:17 reads, “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and a contrite heart, God, You will not despise.”

We cannot step into God’s spiritual power and authority until we humble ourselves and recognize our need for him.

Here is a prayer: “Lord, we ask for humble and contrite hearts.  Remind us that those who have been led into evil are not our enemies.  Satan is our enemy, and he has a foothold in these lives.  We pray that you will soften hard hearts and humble those who perpetuate evil by standing against you.  Show them their need for you.  Destroy evil by drawing those you have created into your love with contrite hearts.”

5. Pray for repentance to lead to revival.

Second Chronicles 7:14 reads, “If My people who are called by My name humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

As we pray these spiritual warfare prayers, we can follow in this prayer for repentance and revival.

Here is a prayer: “Father, we pray that your people will humble themselves, pray, and seek your face.  We pray they will turn from evil and hear from you.  Lord, please forgive our sins and heal our land.”

6. Claim the power of Christ.

Luke 10:19 reads, “Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.”

Jesus gave his followers the authority to overcome all kinds of evil.

This verse also calls us to remember that although our enemies can go so far as to take our lives, they have no power over our souls when we belong to Jesus.  We don’t need to fear those who can kill our bodies but cannot claim our souls.

Here is a prayer: “Father, thank you that we don’t need to fear those who can harm our bodies but cannot destroy our souls.  Give us boldness to stand against evil and overcome it with good.”

7. Bind the evil spirits in Jesus’ name.

Matthew 18:18-19 reads, “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.”

Jesus gave his disciples authority in the spiritual realm.  We stand in this authority, too.

This verse reminds us to ask God to bring his kingdom to earth as he rules and reigns over all spiritual powers.  It also reminds us to unite with others in prayer.  When we join together in praying, we are strengthened.

Don’t fight your spiritual battles alone.  Find someone who will pray with you.

Here is a prayer: “Lord, we bind the spirits of evil, division, and destruction in our nation and in our world.  We stand in agreement as we lift this prayer before your throne and thank you for hearing us.”Spiritual Warfare Prayers

8. Pray for good to overcome evil.

Romans 12:1 reads, “Do not be overcome with evil, but overcome evil with good.”

We can overcome evil by simply doing good.  Loving well is a powerful way of doing battle on this fallen earth.

Here is a prayer: “God, help us, as your children, to set an example for how to overcome evil.  Let our love be so strong that darkness cannot stay in our presence.  Teach us to love our enemies, extend kindness to those who wish to harm us, and remember that we are all much more alike than we are different.  Every person is on a journey with you.  Help us lead others toward you, not away from you.”

9. Pray for the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimonies to overcome evil.

Revelation 12:11 reads, “And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death.”

Our stories are full of power.  When Satan attacks, overcome him by sharing your story with others and reminding yourself of his past faithfulness to you.

We overcome the enemy by the blood of Christ and the word of our testimonies.

Here is a prayer: “Lord, thank you that we can overcome evil by the blood of Jesus and the word of our testimonies.  Empower us as we carry our stories into this world and share them with other.  We ask that your Holy Spirit breathe through our words and touch hearts, transforming lives.  Draw others into your love through our testimonies and overcome evil by the blood of Jesus.”

10. Command the evil spirits to leave.

Deuteronomy 28:7 reads, “The Lord will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before you. They shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways.”

A battle is taking place in the unseen spiritual realm.  Ask God to defend you in this battle.  He lives to fight for you.

Here is a prayer: “God, thank you for reigning in power over every evil spirit.  In the name of Jesus, we command the evil, destructive spirits to flee from our homes, schools, and communities.  Lead us into victory with your powerful right hand.”
