A Daily Devotional for Boys Who Want to Grow in Courage and Strength

We have exciting news to share today.  After months of work, our sons, Aiden, Caleb, and I are excited to announce the release of our new daily devotional for boys, God’s Warrior: Devotions for Boys Who Want to Grow in Courage and StrengthYou can find it right here today!

A Daily Devotional for Boys

After writing two mother-daughter devotional books with our daughter, Bekah, I’ve been repeatedly asked to write a devotional book for boys.  During the summer months, our boys decided they were ready to give it a try, and we started writing.

After writing with Bekah, writing a book with our boys was a drastically different experience.  Aiden is six, and Caleb is eleven.  Let’s just say there was much more activity and movement during the writing process with the boys.

I quickly realized that due to the boys’ ages and energy levels, the best way to add their input to the book would involve interviewing them and writing their responses within the pages of the devotional.

Their initial responses were hilarious and unexpected.  I often had to rewrite my prompts and more clearly explain the premise of each devotion.  Nevertheless, we eventually wrote 40 devotions together.

“Mom, nobody’s gonna read this,” one of the boys said at one point.  Bless his heart.  Everything about this process was honest.

I hope to prove him wrong and watch this book bless multitudes of families.

We wrote it for boys ages 4-12, and our vision is for a parent, grandparent, older sibling, or any older mentor to read it and discuss it with the boys they care about.  We hope it helps boys understand what it means to be strong and courageous warriors who love and trust God.

Now, more than ever, our world is in need of courageous warriors who will carry God’s love into the darkness.

A Glimpse Inside Our Daily Devotional for Boys

God’s Masterpiece

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

Ephesians 2:10, NLT

Have you ever been proud of an art project you created?  Maybe it was a cool sculpture or a painting that turned out awesome.  When God looks at you, he is incredibly proud.  He feels even more pleased than you feel when you make a great piece of art.

Some people live their entire lives feeling like they’re just part of the crowd.  They look at themselves and feel like God made a mistake when he made them.  They notice everything they’d change about themselves instead of paying attention to what makes them uniquely powerful.

God created you with a purpose.  Through Jesus, you are a masterpiece.  Nothing about you is random.  God created you to be a strong, courageous warrior for his kingdom.  The next time you feel afraid or wonder why God made you the way you are, remember that God has a plan for you.  You are not an accident, and God wants to use you to fulfill his purpose on earth.

Also, remember that nothing you can do can ever take God’s love away from you or make him love you less.  You can’t make a big enough mistake for God to stop loving you.  He is always with you, fighting for you.

Truth to Stand on:

  • I am God’s masterpiece, and nothing about me is random or accidental.
  • God has a purpose for my life.
  • Nothing I can do can ever make God love me less.

Words From a Fellow Warrior:

Sometimes, I feel left out when my brother goes off to play with the neighbor and leaves me out.  I try to hang out with them and be nice.  I remember that God loves me even when I feel left out, but I still don’t like feeling left out!  Aiden

Warrior Prayer:

Dear God, please help me remember that I am your masterpiece.  Nothing about me is accidental.  Teach me how to stand strong in my identity as your courageous, bold warrior and son.  Thank you for the promise that your love can never be taken away from me.

Talk About It:

  • Have you ever felt like God made a mistake in the way he made you?
  • How does your perspective change when you consider that no part of you is an accident?
  • How might God want to use your unique characteristics to make a difference in the world?

Action Step:

Name one thing that makes you unique.  Ask God to help you use this trait for his glory in school, at home, and in your community.  Use this unique gift to bless someone today.

I’m passionate about equipping others to encounter God in powerful and life-changing ways. When I’m not writing, you’ll find me hiking, jogging, exploring wild places with my three young children and husband, leading small groups, and mentoring younger women. A certified special education teacher, I am on leave from the classroom for a season of chasing frogs and playing in creeks with my little ones. Most of all, the compassionate love of Jesus has forever ravished my heart, and I'm emphatic about making his love known to the world.
