Devotions for Kids: Books for the Kids You Care About
Are you looking for Christian devotions for kids? Our sons, Caleb and Aiden, are excited to join me in announcing the release of our new book, God’s Warrior: Devotions for Boys Who Want to Grow in Courage and Strength. Additionally, our mother-daughter devotional book, Girl to Girl: 60 Mother-Daughter Devotions for a Closer Relationship and Deeper Faith, continues to bless multitudes of mothers and daughters.
Both books are now for sale in print, eBook form, and as a free Kindle download with the Kindle Unlimited plan right here today. You can also find Heart to Heart: A Mother-Daughter Devotional With 50 Devotions for Teen Girls.
For the next two weeks, we’ll be sharing devotions from our newly released book, God’s Warrior, as we invite you to take the journey with us. I undertook the majority of the writing in each of these devotions, and Aiden and Caleb offered their insights in the section titled, “Words From a Fellow Warrior.” Here are our thoughts on following Jesus.
Devotions for Kids
Following Jesus
“If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me.”
Luke 9:23
When I was younger, my dad used to lead me on long hikes through the woods. Dad loved to hunt and fish, and I wanted to be just like him. I loved spending time with him, but those walks through the forest could be exhausting.
Sometimes, I’d wonder what would happen if my dad got hurt in the middle of the wilderness. Would I be able to find my way out without his help?
Following Jesus is similar to following someone you trust through the forest. At times, he will lead you into uncertain situations, and you will need to trust that he knows what he is doing. He also wants you to trust that he will never lead you somewhere and abandon you.
We follow Jesus by studying our Bibles and learning what his leadership looks like. We aim to act as he would act, and we ask him for guidance and direction. As you grow older, you’ll continue learning what it means to follow Jesus.
Following Jesus can be summed up with a simple piece of advice: In everything you do, aim to love God and love others. The best news is that he promises to stay with you each step of the way.
Truth to Stand on:
- Jesus wants to be the leader in your life.
- He will show you how to follow him by guiding you with the Bible, through prayer, using other people, and through your circumstances.
- You can trust that Jesus will never leave you.
Words From a Fellow Warrior:
It can be hard to follow Jesus when I’m angry. I want to yell or fight, and that’s not what Jesus would do. I go somewhere quiet to calm down, and that helps. Aiden
Warrior Prayer:
Jesus, thank you for guiding my life. Thank you for the promise that you will never leave me alone. Help me learn how to follow you so that my life pleases you in every way. I want to obey you and honor you in all I do now and as I grow older.
Talk About It:
- Have you ever sensed that Jesus was asking you to follow him into something that felt scary? How did things turn out?
- What makes it hard to follow Jesus at times?
Action Step:
Ask God to show you one area of your life where he wants you to stop going your own way and follow him more closely. Pay attention to any thoughts that come to mind after you pray this prayer. What is he showing you? Make a commitment to follow him in this area.
