10 Prayers of Praise to Lift Your Head
A white moon washes the forest in waves of pellucid light, a benediction. I went to the woods to ground myself. As the light fades, I realize I’ve stayed longer than planned. Closing my eyes in the moonlight, I turn to God with prayers of praise in hopes that he might lift my head.
When life is challenging, turning to God in praise can help us rise above our circumstances. This doesn’t mean we ignore our emotions; rather, we process them in God’s presence. After we have sorted through these feelings, we anchor ourselves to God. One way to secure this anchor is through praise.
If you need God to lift your head today, I invite you to join me in the autumn moonlight as I prayed the following prayers of praise. Be sure to read to the end of today’s post for a free devotional eBook to help you draw near to God and find hope.
10 Prayers of Praise for Hope
Most of us face times when praising God doesn’t come easily. When these times come, we can always praise God for his character and goodness. The following prayers of praise focus on the unchanging nature of God. By taking our eyes off ourselves and fixing them on God, we can experience his peace and joy.
Prayers of Praise to God
1. Thank God for his promise never to forsake you.
Deuteronomy 31:6 reminds us that God will never leave nor forsake his children. Even when we feel all alone in the world, God is always with us, loving us and caring for us.
Here is a prayer:
“God, thank you for your promise to be with me always. I praise you for your goodness and care. Forgive me for the times when I have turned from you in anger, feeling alone and abandoned. I choose to stand on your promise that you will be with me rather than standing on my feelings.”
2. Thank God for working all things for good in your life.
Romans 8:28 teaches that God works all things for the good of those who love him. No matter how painful our circumstances might be, God can use our pain for good.
Here is a prayer:
“Lord, thank you for the promise to work all things for good in my life. I confess that it’s hard to believe this promise when I’m hurting or suffering. Forgive me for my unbelief. I praise you for being sovereign over the details of my life. Thank you for being good at all times. I trust you to take even the most difficult parts of my life and use them for my good and your glory.”
3. Praise God that everything he does is done in love and kindness.
First John 4:8 reads, “God is love.” Everything God does is done in love and kindness. Because God’s character is fully loving, he cannot act outside of love.
Here is a prayer of praise for God’s love:
“Father, thank you for your unconditional love for me. I praise you for the kindness you shower upon me continually and thank you for pouring out your love every day. Open my eyes to become more aware of your love and goodness. Forgive me for overlooking these demonstrations of your care.”
4. Praise God for being faithful to you even when you are not faithful to him.
God is always faithful to his children. When we wander away from him, he looks for ways to draw us back into his love (Hosea 2:14).
Here is a prayer to praise God for being faithful to you:
“Dear Lord, thank you for your immense faithfulness. I confess that I am prone to straying away from you. Forgive me for wandering from your love and being unfaithful to you at times. Thank you that even when I turn from you, you never stop pursuing me. I praise you for your faithfulness and care today. I turn to you and receive all your goodness, love, and tenderness.”

5. Thank God for caring for your needs.
God promises to provide for his children. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus encouraged his followers to look at the birds of the air and flowers of the field. He reminded them that just as God provided for them, he will provide for his children.
Here is a prayer of praise to thank God for caring for your needs:
“Heavenly Father, thank you that just as you care for the birds of the sky, you care for all my needs. Forgive me for doubting you and failing to trust in your provision. I repent of the times I’ve taken control and tried to provide for myself apart from your guidance. I praise you for being a good Father who wants to meet all my needs. Help me trust in you and look to you for provision.”
6. Thank God for giving you everything you need to follow him.
Second Peter 1:3 teaches that God has given us everything we need for life and godliness. He has provided us with all the tools, resources, skills, and abilities we need to live godly lives.
Here is a prayer to thank God for providing for you in these ways:
“Dear Lord, thank you for promising to give me everything I need to live a godly life in Christ Jesus. I confess that I turn to my human strength and wisdom and fail to turn to you at times. Please help me remember to turn to you for guidance and strength. I praise you for your promise to give me all I need to walk with you.”
7. Praise God that his plans for you are good and full of hope.
The well-known words of Jeremiah 29:11 encouraged the Israelites by reminding them that God’s plans for them were good and full of hope. This encouragement came as they lived as exiles in the land of Babylon. God was reminding them that he would restore them.
God’s plans for his children today are good as well. We can praise him because he has good things in store for us.
Here is a prayer of praise:
“Father God, thank you that your plans for my future and good and filled with hope. Forgive me for the times when I lose sight of this promise and succumb to hopelessness or even despair. I praise you for the ways you work in my life to lead me into your good plans. Thank you for calling me to partner with you in bringing your good news to the world around me.”
8. Thank God for dwelling within you.
When we receive Jesus as Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit comes to live within us. We can praise God for the gift of his indwelling Spirit to guide us, counsel us, and comfort us.
“Lord, thank you for pouring your Holy Spirit upon your followers. I praise you for your goodness and your nearness. Thank you for your promise to dwell within your followers, sealing our hearts as we live for you and with you.”
9. Thank God for his grace.
God imparts his grace when he works in our lives to accomplish what we cannot do in our human strength.
Here is a prayer to thank God for his grace:
“Dear God, thank you for your grace. Thank you for the saving grace we find when we receive Jesus as Savior. We thank you for the day-by-day grace you impart as you help us accomplish what we cannot do without you. Thank you for changing us from the inside out and equipping us for all life’s battles. Thank you that your grace is sufficient in our weakness.”
10. Thank God for demonstrating his love to you through Jesus.
God demonstrated his love for us by sending his Son to take the punishment we deserve by dying on the cross. We can praise him for this great love.
Here is a prayer of praise:
“Lord God, thank you for your love for us. Thank you for sending your Son, Jesus, to die on the cross, receiving the punishment we deserve for our sins and dying in our place. We praise you for your goodness and your love. Thank you that through Jesus, we can have a close relationship with you and forgiveness for our sins.”
