Psalm 91 Prayer Points: Prayers for Your Family and Friends
In the gentle hours of moonlight and silence, I lift my eyes to a starlit sky. My heart is heavy, and I read Psalm 91 as I pray for protection over our family. Today, I’ll share the Psalm 91 prayer points I prayed in the hours of darkness. May these prayers bless you as you draw near to God in prayer as well.
I also invite you to read to the end of today’s post for a free devotional eBook to help you connect with God in prayer.
Let’s dive into these Psalm 91 prayer points.
Psalm 91 Prayer Points
Jewish tradition attributes Psalm 91 to Moses, noting similarities between the Psalm and Moses’ other writings. Others credit David; although, the Psalm appears anonymously in Hebrew transcripts.
This is a Psalm about finding comfort in God’s protection. Let’s look at 11 prayer points from the Psalm.
11 Psalm 91 Prayer Points
1. Thank God that when we respond to his pursuit, his presence offers protection.
Psalm 91:1 reads, “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty” (ESV).
When we learn to find shelter in God, we find protection in his loving presence.
The world offers many false sources of security. We are tempted to put our security in our human abilities, our finances, and other people. These sources of security are all capable of letting us down. Only God’s shelter offers perfect protection.
2. Thank God that he is trustworthy.
Psalm 91:2 reads, “I will say to the Lord, ‘My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’”
When we are honest, most of us can admit that God does not always feel trustworthy. We doubt him.
Nevertheless, he will not fail us. He is a protective fortress, and he is trustworthy.
When I’m having trouble trusting God, I pray, “Father, I want to trust you, but I don’t. Please help me grow in trust.”
God honors the honest prayers of his children.
3. Thank God that he holds the power to deliver you.
Psalm 91:3 reads, “For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence.”
We don’t need to fear the destructive forces surrounding us on earth. God is capable of delivering us from any evil attack in any moment.
At times, God permits difficulties in our lives because he uses these times to shape us into the image of Jesus. We can trust that nothing reaches us without passing through his protective arms first.
This leads to our next prayer point.
4. Thank God for being your refuge.
Psalm 91:4 reads, “He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.”
As a mother bird protects her young with her wings, God’s protection surrounds his children like a shield. Anything that reaches us, must pass through him first.
We can find comfort in this truth when life doesn’t make sense.
5. Thank God that perfect love casts out fear.
Psalm 91:5-6 reads, “You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor the destruction that wastes at noonday.”
The words, “Do not fear,” appear hundreds of times in Scripture.
Fear is not from God.
God wants us to walk in the confidence of his loving presence. We don’t need to fear because God is with us and will never leave us. He is capable of working all things for the good of those who love him.
6. Thank God for his power to uphold you.
Psalm 91:7-8 reads, “A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. You will only look with your eyes and see the recompense of the wicked.”
At times, it feels like the world is crashing around us.
We can thank God that even in the middle of terrible times, he holds the power to protect us. Again, nothing reaches us without passing through him first.
7. Thank God that when we dwell with him, he protects us.
Psalm 91:9-10 reads, “Because you have made the Lord your dwelling place—the Most High, who is my refuge—no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent.”
We can rest in God’s refuge because he protects us and provides for us.
We can trust that nothing will harm us without his protective hand permitting it. When difficulties and hardships arise, we can trust that God plans to use them for our good and his glory.
8. Thank God that he commands his angels concerning us.
Psalm 91:11-13 reads, “For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone. You will tread on the lion and the adder; the young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot.”
Angels are created beings like us, designed to serve God’s purposes.
We can find comfort in knowing that God commands his angels concerning us. His angels protect us and help us. We are never alone because God never takes his eyes off us.
9. Thank God that he protects those who love him and know his name.
Psalm 91:14 reads, “Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows my name.”
God’s greatest hope for each of his children is that we will turn to him, responding to his pursuit of us. God wants a relationship with each of us.
Because we love him and know him, he protects and delivers us.
10. Thank God that he answers your prayers.
Psalm 91:15 reads, “When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him.”
What a wonderful promise! When we call out to God, he answers us.
He doesn’t always answer according to our expectations, but he hears our prayers and responds.
He is with us in difficult times and rescues us.
11. Thank God that his desire for you is for a long, satisfied life.
Psalm 91:16 reads, “With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”
All our days are ordained before one of them comes to be. We can rest in this.
Furthermore, God offers his salvation to all who receive him. Have you turned to God for satisfaction and salvation?
He is waiting for you to run to his protective embrace today.
