Overcoming Trials

10 War Room Prayers for Victory in Life’s Battles

Morning greets us soundlessly this time of year.  The light has begun to push back the darkness, but winter’s arms still enfold us.  I sit in the corner of our dining room each morning and pray for our kids.  I pray for friends and family members, the people who are within our inner circle.  This dining room has become a war room over the years, and from this corner I pray war room prayers for victory in every area of life.

Today, we’ll explore 10 war room prayers for life’s battles.

Be sure to read to the end of today’s post for a free devotional eBook to help guide your war room prayers.

War Room Prayers

We all need war rooms.

A war room doesn’t have to be a room set aside solely for prayer.  The corner of a bedroom or kitchen can be a war room when we enter in and put on our armor, praying for ourselves and our loved ones.

10 War Room Prayers for Life’s Battles

Today, I’m sharing some of my war room prayers.  May these prayers help you find victory in life’s battles, too.

1. Ask God to align your heart with his heart.

My primary prayer throughout the previous year has been a prayer for alignment.  I’ve been asking God to align my heart with his heart, and this prayer has yielded life-changing outcomes.  This is a war room prayer we can pray over our lives and the lives of our loved ones.

God answers prayers that align with his will.  Because this prayer is always his will for us, it is a prayer he will faithfully answer.

Before he went to the cross, Jesus asked God to remove the cup from him if it was possible to accomplish his purpose any other way.

He ended his prayer in complete submission, “Yet not what I will, but what you will.”

May we follow this example as we ask God to bring our hearts into alignment with his heart.

War Room Prayer:

“Father, thank you for being good all the time.  Please align my heart with your heart so that your desires become my desires.  Give me eyes to see the needs surrounding me.  As your Spirit helps me overcome my sinful nature, I pray that my life will come into full alignment with your will for me.  Please also give me the strength to obey you as you reveal your will to me.”

2. Thank God for his presence with you.

Before he ascended into heaven, Jesus reminded his followers that he would be with them always (Matthew 28:20).

We can have hope in difficult times because Jesus is with us.  Nothing reaches us without passing through his protective arms first.

He is our good Shepherd, and he will guide and carry us through even the darkest times.  Giving thanks is a war room prayer that aligns us with God’s heart, pushing back the darkness.

War Room Prayer:

“Dear Lord, thank you for your promise to be with me always.  I admit that it’s tempting to put my hope in reaching the end of the trial I am currently facing.  Instead of putting my hope in better circumstances, help me find my hope in your loving presence with me, guiding me and comforting me.  Help me experience you in new ways as I walk through this time.”

3. Pray that God will help you gaze at him and glance at your problems.

Hebrews 12:1-2 reads, “Therefore, since we also have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let’s rid ourselves of every obstacle and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let’s run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking only at Jesus, the originator and perfecter of the faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (NASB).

When we keep our eyes on Jesus, his love fills us with hope.  We can endure uncertainty and even suffering because he gives us strength.

War Room Prayer:

“Lord, thank you for setting the example of what it looks like to press forward for the joy set before us.  Help me keep my eyes on you as I endure this difficult time.  It’s easy to become distracted and look at the storm surrounding me.  Instead of looking at the storm, help me gaze as you in your power and glory.  Nothing is too hard for you.  I rest in this promise today.”War Room Prayers

4. Thank God that he will never abandon you.

Deuteronomy 31:6 reminds us that God will never leave nor forsake his children.  Even when we feel all alone in the world, God is always with us, loving us and caring for us.

War Room Prayer:

“God, thank you for your promise to be with me always.  I praise you for your goodness and care.  Forgive me for the times when I have turned from you in anger, feeling alone and abandoned.  I choose to stand on your promise that you will be with me rather than standing on my feelings.”

5. Pray for endurance to continue pressing forward.

We all need endurance to complete the work God calls us to do.  Praying for strength and endurance is a powerful war room prayer.

War Room Prayer:

“Lord God, I turn to you for strength today.  Thank you for seeing me as I am and imparting your grace in my life every day.  Please empower me by your Spirit so that I can endure and complete the work you have set before me.  Help me not to grow weary in doing good.  Reveal your perfect power in my weakest moments.”

6. Thank God for working all things for good in your life.

Romans 8:28 teaches that God works all things for the good of those who love him.  No matter how painful our circumstances might be, God can use our pain for good.

War Room Prayer:

“Lord, thank you for the promise to work all things for good in my life.  I confess that it’s hard to believe this promise when I’m hurting or suffering.  Forgive me for my unbelief.  I praise you for being sovereign over the details of my life.  Thank you for being good at all times.  I trust you to take even the most difficult parts of my life and use them for my good and your glory.”

7. Ask God to strengthen you for the journey.

God’s power is perfected when we are at our weakest.  If you’ve reached the end of your strength, there is good news for you today.  You are in the perfect place to watch God work in power.

War Room Prayer:

“Father God, thank you for revealing your power in my life.  I confess that I tend to rely on my own strength and abilities rather than turning to you in weakness.  This is a bold prayer, but I ask you to bring me to the end of my human strength so that I might experience your perfect power working in and through me.  Help me trust you as I wait for you.”

8. Pray for the patience to wait on God’s perfect timing.

Waiting for God to move in difficult situations can be painful.

God will give us strength as we wait for him.

War Room Prayer:

“God, thank you that you are never late.  At times, it feels like you’ve forgotten me or are late, but you are always right on time.  I also know that you go before me, and no matter where I go, you are already there.  Please help me settle down and wait on your perfect timing in this difficult situation.  Help me trust that you will change this situation when your work is complete.”

9. Thank God for giving you everything you need to follow him.

Second Peter 1:3 teaches that God has given us everything we need for life and godliness.  He has provided us with all the tools, resources, skills, and abilities we need to live godly lives.

War Room Prayer:

“Dear Lord, thank you for promising to give me everything I need to live a godly life in Christ Jesus.  I confess that I turn to my human strength and wisdom and fail to turn to you at times.  Please help me remember to turn to you for guidance and strength.  I praise you for your promise to give me all I need to walk with you.”

10. Praise God that his plans for you are good and full of hope.

The well-known words of Jeremiah 29:11 encouraged the Israelites by reminding them that God’s plans for them were good and full of hope.  This encouragement came as they lived as exiles in the land of Babylon.  God was reminding them that he would restore them.

God’s plans for his children today are good as well.  We can praise him because he has good things in store for us.

War Room Prayer:

“Father God, thank you that your plans for my future and good and filled with hope.  Forgive me for the times when I lose sight of this promise and succumb to hopelessness or even despair.  I praise you for the ways you work in my life to lead me into your good plans.  Thank you for calling me to partner with you in bringing your good news to the world around me.”10 War Room Prayers for Victory in Life's Battles

I’m passionate about equipping others to encounter God in powerful and life-changing ways. When I’m not writing, you’ll find me hiking, jogging, exploring wild places with my three young children and husband, leading small groups, and mentoring younger women. A certified special education teacher, I am on leave from the classroom for a season of chasing frogs and playing in creeks with my little ones. Most of all, the compassionate love of Jesus has forever ravished my heart, and I'm emphatic about making his love known to the world.
