10 Prayer Points for Alignment With God
Praying this way has helped me shift from making lists of self-centered requests to praying in a way that seeks God’s direction in all areas of my life.
Above all else, God wants us to pray because prayer is meant to deepen our connection with him.
Prayer is about cultivating a closer relationship with God. When we pray for alignment with his heart, our relationship flourishes. We also begin seeing answers to our prayers because we are praying according to God’s will.
Prayer Points for Alignment With God
Let’s respond to the Lord’s pursuit together as we pray for alignment with his will.
Prayer Point #1. Pray for God to align your passions with his passions.
What are you most passionate about? Ask God to move your heart for the circumstances that move his heart, aligning your passions with his passions.
Here is a prayer:
“Father, please align my heart with your heart so that I am passionate about the issues that are important to you. Show me what is on your heart as I go about my days. Give me eyes to see the needs surrounding me and a heart filled with compassion to meet those needs. Rather than seeing difficult people as annoying or abrasive, show me how you feel about them. Fill me with your love and kindness.”
Prayer Point #2. Pray for God to align your heart with his heart in the strained relationships in your life.
At some point, we all face strained relationships with others. The best way to begin navigating these difficult situations in praying for God to align our hearts with his heart.
Here is a prayer:
“God, thank you for the people you have placed in my life. As I face challenges in these relationships, I pray you will bring me into alignment with you. Show me what I need to know. Give me wisdom and discernment. Most of all, fill me with love for others. Help me extend forgiveness as you have forgiven me. Forgive me for allowing bitter roots to grow. Protect me from resentment and bitterness. Please bring all my relationships into alignment with your will.”
Prayer Point #3. Pray for alignment with God as you pursue healing and wholeness.
God wants his children to be healed and whole. At times, we resist this healing because of the work required to attain it.
Ask God to give you the courage to pursue healing in every area of your life.
Here is a prayer:
“Lord, thank you that your desire for me is to be healed in every way. Examine my heart and show me if there is anything you want to bring into the light so that you can heal it. Give me the courage to pursue healing in any way you lead, whether through therapy, pastoral counseling, or bringing my wounds into the light with someone I trust.”
Prayer Point #4. Ask God to align your heart with his heart in your workplace.
We are called to be God’s vessels of love in our workplaces.
At times, the daily grind of work can lead us to lose sight of this vision. Ask God to give you his heart for the people with whom you interact at work.
Here is a prayer:
“Heavenly Father, thank you for my job. I confess that there are days when I go through the motions at work. I feel irritable and don’t feel like being there. Forgive me for having a bad attitude in these moments. Please align my heart with your heart at work. Help me see the people with whom I work with your eyes. Fill me with your love and compassion for them. Remind me that I am your vessel, and my calling is to go into the world and share your love with others.”
Prayer Point #5. Pray for God to align your heart with his heart in your closest relationships.
It’s easy to lose sight of God’s calling to minister to those closest to us. Our spouses, children, parents, and other family members often get the worst of us. Ask God to align your heart with his heart in these relationships.
Here is a prayer:
“Lord, thank you for the people who are closest to me. I confess that I can be irritable with these people. Forgive me for my negative attitude. Please align my heart with yours so that I see the way you want these relationships to look. Heal the rifts that exist in these relationships so that we might honor you through our interactions.”

Prayer Point #6. Pray that your thoughts will align with God’s heart.
Scripture tells us to take our thoughts captive and make them obedient to Christ. We do this by spending time in God’s Word and allowing his Word to renew our minds.
We are also aware of which thoughts we allow to dwell in our minds.
Here is a prayer:
“God, thank you for giving me all the tools I need to live a godly life in Christ. I confess that I sometimes allow my thoughts to settle in places that are not helpful. Imaginary conversations, critical thoughts of others, self-condemnation, and insecurities can consume me if I let them. I repent of these thought patterns. Please help me bring my thoughts into alignment with your thoughts. Help me focus on what is pure, good, noble, right, excellent, admirable, and peace-loving.”
Prayer Point #7. Pray that your actions and words will honor God.
Our thoughts determine our actions. The prayer below can help us as we aim to change our thoughts and actions.
Here is a prayer for actions that align with God:
“Father, thank you for your promise to be with me always. I lean into you and trust that you will help me live in such a way that my actions honor you. Search my heart and show me if any of my recent actions or habitual behaviors are dishonoring to you. Help me live in such a way that every action honors you.”
Prayer Point #8. Pray for God’s eyes to see the needs surrounding you.
Without God’s help, we all tend to focus on our own needs rather than the needs of others. Ask God to give you his eyes to see the needs surrounding you.
Here is a prayer:
“Dear Lord, thank you for your love and care for me. I want to be your vessel, extending this same love and care to others. Please help me see the needs around me and lead me as I respond to those needs. Fill me with your compassion and care so that I can extend these gifts to others.”
Prayer Point #9. Pray for alignment with God in how you spend your time.
It’s easy to waste our time. In the same light, we all face the temptation to overwork, striving to produce more during times when God has called us to rest. Ask God to help you find this balance.
Here is a prayer:
“Father, thank you for the time you have given me to live on earth and fulfill your will. I confess that it’s easy to waste time. I also face the temptation to strive, hurry, and overachieve, and this does not honor you either. Align my heart with yours as I aim to use my time for your glory. Lead me in the balance between times of rest and times of work.”
Prayer Point #10. Pray for alignment within your body.
Lastly, we can ask God to bring our bodies into alignment with him.
God wants his children to be healthy and strong. We can ask God to heal all of our systems, including our minds, as we seek physical alignment and wholeness.
Here is a prayer:
“Lord, thank you for my body. I confess that I don’t always treat it with care in what I put into it and how I prioritize rest. Please help me treat my body in a way that aligns with your vision for me. In the process, please bring every system in my body into alignment with the health and wholeness you desire for me.”
