8 Easter Prayer Points With Scriptures

Easter celebrates the resurrection of Christ and the work he accomplished on the cross.  At the cross, God demonstrated his love for us by sending his Son to suffer and die in our place.  The cross is more than a symbol; it marks the turning point for humankind.  Jesus bore the punishment we deserve on the cross.

Let’s take time to thank him as we allow his Word to guide our prayers.

Easter Prayer Points With Scriptures to Guide Our Prayers

1. Thank God for setting you free from condemnation and shame at the cross.

Romans 8:1 reads, “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (ESV).  Jesus defeated condemnation and shame at the cross.

If you are dealing with guilt or shame regarding a mistake you made or a sinful choice, turn to the Jesus.  Jesus bore God’s punishment on the cross.  He bore the punishment you deserve, and in doing so, he set you free from guilt and shame.

Receive his forgiveness and commit to following him, and you can be free from shame.

Easter Prayer Point:

“Lord, thank you for freeing me from shame and condemnation at the cross.  Thank you for setting me free to live in your resurrection power.  I receive the gift of the forgiveness of my sins and fix my eyes on you.”

2. Thank Jesus for taking the punishment you deserve at the cross.

First John 4:10 reads, “In this is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”

Jesus bore the punishment we deserved at the cross.  This is love.  God poured out his anger toward the sinfulness of the whole world upon Jesus.

God isn’t angry with us.  Because Jesus bore God’s anger, we have peace with God through Christ.

Easter Prayer Point:

“Lord, thank you for demonstrating your love for me by sending Jesus to bear the punishment I deserve.  I cannot wrap my mind around a love so great that I would send my child to die for someone else.  Thank you for your love for me.  I embrace the gift of your salvation and the forgiveness you purchased for me at the cross.”

3. Thank Jesus for reconciling you to God.

Romans 5:10-11 reads, “For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.”

We are no longer strangers to God.

The cross gave us direct access to God.

When Jesus died on the cross, the veil of the temple, which once separated God’s people from his presence, was torn in two.  God tore the curtain to show us that we have free access to his presence because of the cross.  What an amazing gift!

Easter Prayer Point:

“Lord, thank you for sending Jesus so that I can be reconciled to you.  Thank you that I am saved by his sacrifice.  Help me live in alignment with you in every area of my life as I embrace your transforming love.”

4. Thank Jesus for setting you free from the power of sin.

First Corinthians 6:20 reads, “You have been bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your bodies.”

Thanks to Jesus’ work on the cross, sin no longer rules over our bodies.  We are free to follow Christ in righteousness.

Do you feel stuck in some area of sin right now?

Remind yourself you are not a slave to sin.  You are a child of God.  Ask him how to take the first step to walk in the freedom earned at the cross.  He will show you.

Easter Prayer Point:

“Lord, thank you that I am no longer ruled by my sinful desires.  My old sinful nature was nailed to the cross when I received Jesus as Savior and Lord.  Please show me how to walk in the freedom Jesus earned for me at the cross.  I declare that I am no longer a slave to sin; I am a child of God, and the power that raised Jesus lives inside me.”8 Easter Prayer Points With Scriptures

4 More Easter Prayer Points With Scriptures About the Cross

5. Thank Jesus for defeating darkness and evil at the cross.

Colossians 3:15 reads, “He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.”

We are victorious because of the cross.  Jesus won the battle.  He defeated death.

We will face attacks from the enemy; however, the war has been won.  One day, Jesus will throw Satan into a lake of fire forever.  Until that day comes, we can stand on faith when the enemy attacks us.  We can remind ourselves that the war is already won.

Easter Prayer Point:

“Lord, thank you for the victory you won for humankind at the cross.  The war against Satan has already been won.  As I face spiritual battles, empower me to stand strong in your love.  Help me press into your power to reign with you over sin and death.”

6. Thank God for demonstrating his love for you at the cross.

Romans 5:8 reads, “God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”  God demonstrated his love for us at the cross.  Jesus died for us while we were still sinners.

Let’s hold onto this truth today. When we are hurting, let’s remember that love is not merely a feeling.  God demonstrated love with the most profound sacrifice a parent could ever make.  He allowed his Son to die in our place.

I wonder how the story might have been different if those who crucified Jesus knew how much he loved them.

How would my life be different if I lived out of the overflow of God’s passionate love every moment of every day?

Let’s hold the cross close to our hearts this Easter.  What happened on the cross changed everything.  God’s love is radical.

Easter Prayer Point:

“Lord, thank you for revealing your love for me at the cross.  Help me remember that your love is more than something I feel.  Love is an action, and Jesus’ death was the ultimate act of love.  I pray that this love will flow through me and impact others.”

7. Thank God that the Holy Spirit dwells within you.

Ephesians 1:13 reads, “In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit.”

The Holy Spirit dwells in the hearts of all who receive Christ.  The Spirit is a guarantee that we will be with God in heaven one day.  Thank God for sending his Spirit to guide, comfort, and empower you.

Easter Prayer Point:

“Lord, thank you for the blood of Christ, which sealed the New Covenant.  Thank you that under this Covenant, the Holy Spirit dwells within me as a deposit, guaranteeing my future with you.”

8. Thank God that you have free access to a loving relationship with him because of the cross.

Hebrews 4:15-16 reads, “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

Before Jesus died on the cross, God’s people sacrificed animals to make atonement for their sins.  A High Priest performed this duty annually.  The people were not allowed to approach God directly.

When Jesus died on the cross, he became our High Priest forever.  His blood paid the price for our sins and gave us free access to boldly approach God directly.

Easter Prayer Point:

“Lord, thank you for the freedom to approach you boldly and directly when we are in need.  Thank you for your mercy and grace in our times of need.  We draw near to you in adoration and thank you for your immense love for us.”8 Easter Prayer Points With Scripture
