Fatherhood is one of the greatest callings God gives a man. Dads are called to lead with wisdom, patience, and love, reflecting the heart of God as they care for their families. Today, we’ll explore 15 Bible verses for dads.
These Scriptures remind us that God sees the sacrifices fathers make. He also faithfully equips them for the calling of fatherhood.

Whether you are a dad or simply want to bless and encourage the fathers surrounding you, these words are meant to edify and challenge fathers to follow God’s example.

Bible Verses for Dads
1. Deuteronomy 6:6-7, ESV
And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.
Godly fathers raise their children to follow God. This is a great responsibility and requires diligence.
God wants parents to talk about him with their children as a regular conversation in everyday life, teaching their children who he is.
2. Proverbs 17:27
Whoever restrains his words has knowledge, and he who has a cool spirit is a man of understanding.
All parents face frustration with their kids.
God calls parents to remain calm, loving, and patient in even the most difficult moments, keeping a cool spirit and restraining their words.
3. Psalm 128:3-4
Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table. Behold, thus shall the man be blessed who fears the Lord.
According to this Psalm, the man who fears the Lord will bless his wife, enabling her to be fruitful. His children will also flourish.
Our lives are meant to flow from our relationship with God. When a father seeks God with his whole heart, all other relationships thrive as a result.
4. Ephesians 6:4
Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
Fathers are to raise their children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord, not provoking them to anger and frustration.
God wants all dads to ask for his guidance in this process, and he will show them how to raise their children to walk in his light.

5. Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.
Most parents face concerns for the future of their children. Prodigals stray. Teens rebel. Toddlers tantrum. We wonder if we’re failing our kids.
At these times, we can cling to the promise that when we raise our children in the ways of God, they will eventually return to these ways.
6. Psalm 127:3-5
Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.
Children are a blessing from God.
This is a good verse for parents who are weary and have lost sight of the blessing.
7. Proverbs 14:26
In the fear of the Lord one has strong confidence, and his children will have a refuge.
When a father fears the Lord and aims to walk with him, that father is a refuge for his children. He leads his children into God’s safe presence because he dwells in the presence of God.
8. Joshua 24:15
And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
God establishes men as the leaders of their homes. For this reason, when a father chooses to follow God, he sets the standard for the rest of his household.
If you are a father, it’s worth asking the following question: Which of my behaviors are leading my family closer to the Lord, and which behaviors are pulling them away?

9. Proverbs 20:7
The righteous who walks in his integrity— blessed are his children after him!
A person with integrity consistently holds fast to high standards of morality. Be a man of integrity, and your children will follow your example.
10. Hebrews 12:7
It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline?
Just as God disciplines his children, fathers are called to discipline their children in love.
11. 1 Corinthians 16:13
Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.
Fathers set an example for their children by standing firm in the faith, being on guard against temptation, and finding strength in the Lord.
12. Proverbs 13:24
Whoever spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him.
All children require discipline.
For this reason, parents are reminded to discipline their children for their well-being.
13. Proverbs 17:6
Grandchildren are the crown of the aged, and the glory of children is their fathers.
Children and grandchildren are blessings from God.
Remembering this can encourage the heart of weary caregivers.
14. Proverbs 10:9
Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out.
When a man walks in integrity, his footsteps are secure.
He sets a godly example for his family.
15. Colossians 3:12
Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.
Fathers follow God’s example in parenting when they are intentionally compassionate, kind, humble, meek, and patient.
These characteristics cannot be embodied without the help of the Holy Spirit. However, when fathers seek the Spirit’s help, he provides and guides.
