Prayer Points for Intimacy With God With Scriptures
God’s greatest desire is a relationship with each of his children. For this reason, when we pray his Word back to him and ask him to help us go deeper in his love, he will respond.
Let’s dive into these prayer points together today.
10 Prayer Points for Intimacy With God With Scriptures
1. Thank God that when you draw near to him, he draws near to you.
“Father, thank you that when I draw near to you, you respond by drawing near to me. Help me to put my relationship with you at the center of my life, seeking you with my whole heart. Thank you for your desire for a relationship with me. Thank you for pursuing me and drawing me into your love.”
Scripture:
Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.
James 4:8, ESV
2. Ask God to deepen your spiritual thirst for him.
“Lord, I want to thirst for you as if I am in a dry and weary land in need of water. I recognize that at times, I don’t thirst for you because I have filled myself with things of this world to temporarily satisfy my longing. I confess this to you. Change my heart, Lord. Help me turn away from these temporary sources of satisfaction and turn toward you as my source of satisfaction and fulfillment.”
Scripture:
O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
Psalm 63:1
3. Thank God for being your refuge.
“God, thank you for being my strong tower, my shelter, and my refuge in life’s storms. I know that I am safe in your embrace when life is difficult. Please help me remember to turn to you first, not as a last resort. In doing so, I know that our relationship will grow stronger. Help me go deeper with you by finding safety and comfort in your arms.”
Scripture:
But for me it is good to be near God; I have made the Lord God my refuge, that I may tell of all your works.
Psalm 73:28
4. Ask God to help you count everything as rubbish compared to knowing him.
“Father, thank you that you created me to live in a dynamic relationship with you. I confess that I have clung to tightly to worldly accolades and victories, finding my identity and sense of purpose in them. Lord, help me consider all these things rubbish compared to knowing you. I want my relationship with you to be my highest priority. Thank you that when I seek you, I find you. Please lead me closer to your heart of love.”
Scripture:
Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death.
Philippians 3:8-10
5. Thank God that as you abide in him, you will bear much fruit.
“Lord, you are the vine, and I am a branch attached to you. Help me remain closely attached to you so that my life will bear fruit for your glory. I acknowledge that I can do nothing apart from you. In you, I live, breathe, and have my being. I want to stay connected to you so that your love overflows from and impacts others.”
Scripture:
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
John 15:5
6. Ask God to reveal anything from which you need to repent.
“Lord, thank you for sending your Son to pay the price for my sins. Thank you that when we confess our sins, you are faithful and just to forgive us. Please show me anything from which I need to repent today. Search my heart and show me if I have offended you by sinning against you. I don’t want any sinful thoughts, attitudes, or actions to hinder my relationship with you.”
Scripture:
But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent.
Revelation 2:4-5
7. Thank God for sending his Son to die in your place.
“Father, I cannot fathom the kind of love that would move a father to send his child to die in the place of another person. Thank you for loving me so much that you sent Jesus, your Son, to pay the price for my sins when he died on the cross. I receive this sacrifice as a gift and commit to following you with my whole heart. I repent of my sins and want to know you more.”
Scripture:
But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8
8. Ask God to help you cease striving and trust him.
“God, thank you for the invitation to stop rushing and pushing and rest in you. Please help me to be still in your presence and trust that you are in control. Help me approach my daily work with joy and peace, not stress and the need to be productive. Thank you that my role is to do my best while leaving the results in your trustworthy hands.”
Scripture:
“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”
Psalm 46:10
9. Thank God that he will never forget you nor forsake you.
“Father, thank you that you are always with me. Thank you for the promise that you will never leave me. I rest in this today as I trust that you will carry me through my darkest days. Thank you for the peace I find in your presence.”
Scripture:
Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you.
Isaiah 49:15
10. Thank God that you can approach him boldly because of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross.
“God, thank you for tearing the veil that separated us from you when Jesus died on the cross. I am grateful that I can approach you with confidence and boldness, trusting that you hear my prayers. Thank you for listening to me, loving me, and caring for me. I pray that our relationship will continue to grow stronger.”
Scripture:
Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
Hebrews 10:19-22
