God Hears Our Prayers (Bible Verses About Answered Prayers)
The long shadows of evening folded over us as we sat on the shoreline. A rainbow of stones beneath our feet, mountains enveloping us, we sat in awe of the so far from our home in Pennsylvania. I invite you to join our family in this moment as we consider God’s faithfulness and study Scripture with a list of Bible verses about answered prayers.
God Hears Our Prayers (Bible Verses About Answered Prayers)
“This is the best campsite we’ve had!” one of the boys remarked. “I love Montana!”
“I just wish it weren’t so smoky,” the other boy added.
“God, we pray this smoke will clear,” I prayed aloud.
“Why are you praying about this? It seems like it’s not that important,” the oldest boy pressed.
“The Bible says to pray about everything!” his little brother retorted.
“Right. This isn’t the most important thing we’ve ever prayed for, but God wants us to talk to him all the time. So, If I’m talking to him all the time, I’m going to tell him about my big worries and the smaller things, like smoky skies and parking spots,” I offered.
“Did you pray for any parking spots today?” the oldest boy asked.
“Three times,” I answered.
“Did we get the spots?” he wanted to know.
“Two times,” I said.
“See, he doesn’t always hear our prayers,” our son remarked.
“Oh, he hears every prayer. But we can trust that when he doesn’t answer the way we hope, he has something better in mind. We don’t usually understand it at the time, but we can always trust him,” I responded.
We spent the rest of the evening gathering colorful stones, skipping them across the flat water, and relaxing on the shoreline. When darkness pressed in, we returned to the tent with the campfire, roasting s’mores and telling stories from the day.
The air had cooled, and as I climbed into my sleeping bag later that night, I thought about God’s admonition to pray about everything. How would my life be different if I truly prayed about all things?
God hears the prayers of his children. Let’s turn to Scripture as we explore some Bible verses about answered prayers.
Bible Verses About Answered Prayers
1. 1 John 5:14-15, ESV
And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.
The key to answered prayer is asking according to God’s will.
We learn God’s will as he renews our minds with his Word (Romans 12:2) and as we continue in obedience.
When we become so closely aligned with God’s heart that his desires become our desires, we will begin seeing answers to our prayers.

2. James 4:3
You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.
Too often, we ask God for things that will satiate our passions.
We should ask God to meet our daily needs, but daily needs can easily slip into daily “wants.” God does not answer prayers that don’t serve his purposes, and some of our human passions aren’t aligned with God’s purposes.
When God doesn’t answer my prayers according to my hopes, I ask him to show me if I was praying with the wrong motives or praying for something that wasn’t best for me.
3. John 15:7
If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
Abiding in God is staying close to him.
When we stay close to God, his desires become our desires.
As this transformation takes place, we begin praying according to his will, and God answers these prayers.
4. Matthew 7:7
Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
Jesus spoke these words as he compared God to a good father who would not give his child a scorpion if the child asked for bread.
In the same way, God wants to meet our daily needs. He will meet our needs as we turn to him in prayer.
5. Psalm 66:18
If I had cherished iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have listened.
The Bible consistently teaches that God responds to those who obey him.
If we allow sin to remain unchecked in our lives, our prayers will go unanswered. God answers the prayers of those who obey him.
This leads me to ask myself, “Are there any areas of life where I am resisting obedience to God?”

6. Mark 11:23-25
“Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”
Jesus taught his disciples that they could move mountains through prayer.
This is true for us as well.
We are to believe that God will answer the prayers that align with his will, and we will see him perform powerful works.
7. James 1:6
But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.
The verse preceding this verse encourages us to ask God for wisdom.
As we seek wisdom, we should ask in faith, trusting that God hears and will answer. God wants his children to be wise. This is a prayer he will faithfully answer.
8. Matthew 6:6
But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
Jesus taught that prayer is to be an intimate exchange with God. We don’t pray to put on a show for others. God is pleased when we go to quiet places and pour our hearts out to him in secret. He rewards this kind of prayer. The greatest reward is a closer relationship with him.
9. Jeremiah 33:3
Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.
God wants us to draw near to him and seek his guidance and wisdom.
He will teach us things we do not know.
A mentor often reminds me, “God knows things we don’t. When you don’t know what to do, ask him. He wants to tell you.”
This is simple and excellent advice.
10. Luke 6:12
In these days he went out to the mountain to pray, and all night he continued in prayer to God.
Jesus set the example for us in prayer. He often prayed all night, seeking God’s will.
As we pursue God with this same passion, God will hear our prayers and draw us deeper into his love.

Our time along the mountain lake eventually drew to a close. We packed up the tent and returned home, many lessons learned, and inspired to be more faithful in prayer.
