10 Biblical Prayers for Healing and Strength
In case you missed yesterday’s announcement, I have exciting news! My newest book, Anchored: A Teen Devotional for Understanding the Old Testament and Applying It to Your Life is now on sale here! Now, let’s get to today’s post as we join in praying these prayers for healing and strength.
I gaze out the window and remember humid summer mornings on the deck, wrapped in birdsong as the sun ascended over the eastern horizon. As I sit with this chilling autumn morning, I turn to God in desperate prayer.
God is a good Father.
He is Jehovah Rapha, the Lord Who Heals.
Healing is in his nature, and he wants his joy to be our source of strength (Nehemiah 8:10).
Let’s turn to his Word to guide us in today’s prayers for healing and strength.
I also invite you to read to the end of today’s post for a free devotional eBook to help you find healing and rest in the Lord.
10 Prayers for Healing and Strength
These prayers come straight from Scripture.
When we pray from God’s Word, we can rest assured that we are praying in alignment with God’s will. These are prayers God answers.
Prayers for Healing and Strength
1. Thank God that when you draw near to him, he draws near to you.
Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.
James 4:8, ESV
Prayer:
“Lord, thank you for the promise that when I draw near to you, you respond by drawing near to me. I pray for your healing touch upon my life today. Strengthen me as I rest in your presence. Comfort me as I find my identity in your life. Give me hope as I trust that your timing is perfect, and nothing is too hard for you.”
2. Thank God that you are healed by Jesus’ wounds.
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
1 Peter 2:24
Prayer:
“God, thank you for sending your Son to receive the punishment we deserve for falling short of your holiness. Today, we claim the promise that we are healed by Jesus’ wounds. When Jesus died on the cross, he defeated sin and death. We stand on this promise as we wait for your healing to be appropriated in our lives, trusting that this work of healing is already complete. Please give us your peace and hope as we wait to see it manifested in our hearts, minds, and bodies.”
3. Thank God for upholding you with his righteous right hand.
Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:10
Prayer:
“Heavenly Father, thank you for the promise to go with me wherever I go. I cling to this promise as I turn to you for healing and strength today. When I feel like I’m at the end of my human strength, remind me that your power is made perfect in my weakness. Uphold me with your righteous right hand. I trust in you to give me all I need for each day.”
4. Thank God for healing your body and your heart.
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
Psalm 147:3
Prayer:
“Lord God, today I’m standing on the promise that you heal the brokenhearted and bind up their wounds. Where my heart is hurting, please bring me peace and comfort. Where my body feels weak and worn down by living in this broken world, please give me strength and courage to continue onward. I know you are with me. Help me cling to the promise of your presence even when I cannot feel you with me.”
5. Thank God for forgiving you, healing you, redeeming you, and crowning you with love and mercy.
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy . . .
Psalm 103:2-4
Prayer:
“Father, today I declare that you are my Redeemer, Healer, and King. I cling to the promise that you forgive, heal, and redeem me. Thank you for crowning me with steadfast love and mercy. I walk in this today as I trust that you will use every challenge for good in my life.”
5 More Prayers for Healing and Strength
6. Ask God to show you someone with whom you can pray.
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
James 5:16
Prayer:
“God, thank you for designing us to live, grow, and heal together, not alone. Today, I ask you to lead me to reach out to someone else for prayer so that I am not carrying this burden alone. Please lead me to a like-minded prayer warrior or friend who stand with me in prayer.”
7. Ask God to show your role in pursuing his healing.
Saying, “If you will diligently listen to the voice of the Lord your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, your healer.”
Exodus 15:26
Prayer:
“Dear Lord, thank you for always guiding me and helping me stay on the right path. When you declared that you were Jehovah Rapha to your children in ancient Israel, you told them that you would heal them if they obeyed you. Lord, if there is anything hindering my healing or anything you want to transform in my life so that I might be healed, please reveal it to me. I want to honor you in every way.”
8. Thank God for the promise to give strength to those who wait for him.
But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31
Prayer:
“Father, as I wait for your healing touch, I confess that I feel impatient at times. I don’t understand your ways or your timing. Help me trust in you as I wait. I claim the promise that as I wait on you, you will renew my strength and empower me to press forward.”
9. Thank God for being your strength and portion.
My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
Psalm 73:26
“God, thank you that when I feel weak, you are my strength and my portion. I turn to you and receive your strength and your sustenance as I continue forward today. I cling to the promise that you will sustain me in my weakest moments.”
10. Thank God for being your source of help in times of trouble.
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Psalm 46:1
Prayer:
“Lord, thank you for being with me always. I receive the promise that you are my help in troubled times. I lean into this promise today, claiming it and waiting to see how you will reach out your strong arm to help and uphold me during this time.”
