Bible Truth for Everyday Life

Plant Your Feet Here When You Face Fear of the Future

I sit among the aspen as they flutter quaking hands toward heaven. They remind me that Heaven really did reach down to touch this muddy earth.  All that’s broken in this world will one day be healed.  This gentle reminder comforts my soul as I admit to my fear of the future.

Life is full and bountiful for our little family this summer, but the journey that led us to this place was anything but a peaceful walk through quaking aspen.

I was downright strung out on the bad days and paralyzed with fear on the worst.

None of us are immune to the fear of bad news.  We pray for faith and trust, but, at times, we feel paralyzed by fear and worry.

Your Fear of the Future

I’ve faced plenty of fears throughout the years.

Most likely, you have, too.

How do we live without fear of the future and plant our feet on solid ground?

The Biblical Example of Fear-Fighting

When I think of fearlessness, my mind is drawn to two men who decided to stand on God’s promises instead of standing on what they could see and feel.

Nestled in the Old Testament book of Numbers, Joshua and Caleb were among the twelve spies sent to scout out the Promised Land and bring back a report to the people of Israel.

Exploration of the Promised Land revealed a rich land with a promise for abundance in agriculture and more. It also revealed fortified cities with unusually large people.

Ten spies reported that the giants were too strong and too big.

Two spies, Joshua and Caleb, chose to stand on God’s promise that despite the dangers, the land was theirs to take.  They stood on what they knew to be true instead of standing on what they could see and feel.

Bible promises to help you overcome fear of bad news

This principle is true for our lives, as well. Instead of fearing what bad news tomorrow might bring, we overcome fear by standing on what is true instead of standing on what we can see and feel.

Plant Your Feet Here When You Face Fear of the Future

Let’s look at a few truths upon which we can plant our feet:

1. Even If Your Worst-Case Scenario Happens, God Will Be With You

2. God Longs to Console You When You Feel Anxious and Fearful

“When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul.” ~ Psalm 94:19

3. You Can Trust God With Your Future

“Humble yourselves, then, under God’s mighty hand, so that he will lift you up in his own good time.  Leave all your worries with him, because he cares for you.” ~ 1 Peter 5:6-7

4. God is Your Stronghold: A Safe Place Surrounding You

“The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?  The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?” ~ Psalm 27:1

5. God Will Carry You Through Hard Times

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” ~ Isaiah 41:10

Do you see it, friend?

What the enemy wants to use to shake you, God wants to use to plant your feet on a solid foundation.Bible truth to help you overcome fear and discouragement

We each have the opportunity to choose between trust and fear. Choose to trust God in your fearful moments, and you will find an anchor for your soul.  You will find strength instead of fear. You will take the instrument intended to weaken you and find strength instead.

I stand to leave the aspen as the stratus clouds begin to spit tiny droplets of rain, and I take one more step into a future that is secure because I know the One who holds it all in the palm of his hand.
