Trusting God With the Unknown

Our first child was born on a Tuesday.  I could barely believe she was hidden within me for all those months.  After the hyperemesis diagnosis and the months of lying on the bathroom floor in a cloud of nausea, I couldn’t comprehend the love I felt for her.

I never knew love like that was possible.

In the months following her birth, I spent hours marveling at her little face.

I spent hours cherishing moments, thanking God, and clinging to her for dear life.

At times, I wrestled with fears about SIDs and what might happen if the love I’d found was somehow stripped away.  I wrestled with these things as I held her through long nights, and I stared down my fears.

Trusting God With the Unknown

As the months wore into years, I gradually learned to loosen my grip and trust that the same God who holds my life in his hands also holds the lives of my children.  I can trust him with my children because his plans will not be thwarted.

Our days were all written before one of them came to be.  While we’re called to live without negligence, we are also called to live without fear of bad news.

The ten truths listed below are anchors for my soul when I begin to worry about the lives of those I love.  No matter what kind of fear you face, let these truths serve as anchors for your soul, too.  You can rest in the faithfulness of the One who holds the future.

10 Bible Verses About Trusting God With the Unknown

1. God will fulfill his purpose for your life.

And in Your book were all written the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there was not one of them.  Psalm 139:16 NASB

All the days of your life are already written in God’s book.  This is true for your loved ones, too.  Press into this truth when you feel fearful about the future.

2. God will never leave you.

Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.  Deuteronomy 31:6 NKJV

You can trust God’s plan because he will never leave your side.

Even if your worst-case scenario becomes reality, God will be with you.  He will sustain you, help you, and carry you.  You can trust the One who promises to stay with you.

3. God will not fail you as you do the work he has given to you.

David also said to Solomon his son, “Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you until all the work for the service of the temple of the LORD is finished.” Deuteronomy 31:6 NIV

No matter what happens in the future, God will not fail you.

He can take any difficult situation and turn it around for good.  Cling to this when you face the fear of the future.

4. God will give you strength.

The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27:1 NKJV

The next time you face the fear of other people, remind yourself that God is with you.  He is on your side.  Aim to obey him, and you don’t need to fear other people.

5. You can trust God when you feel afraid.

When I am afraid, I will trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. Psalm 56:3-4 NIV

I encourage you to memorize this verse and speak it in the face of your fears.  You can trust God and rise above fear.

6. God will take hold of your hand and help you.

For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. Isaiah 41:13 NIV

God is a good Father.  He reaches out to take hold of his children’s hands.  He will lead and guide you as you aim to follow him.

7. God holds your life in the palm of his hand.

And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Matthew 10:28 NKJV

No matter what you face in the future, you can trust in the One who has ordained all of your days.  God’s plans will not be thwarted.

8. God loves you with the perfect and protective love of a good father.

For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. Romans 8:15 KJV

Cry out to God in your fearful moments.  He is listening and will sustain you.

9. God has blessed you with power, love, and self-discipline.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:7 NLT

God has given you a spirit of power, love, and self-discipline.  Any thought that stands against this spirit is not from God.  Take authority in Jesus’ name and command it to leave.

10. God is your helper and defender.

For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we may boldly say: “The LORD is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” Hebrews 13:5-6 NKJV

Above all else, remember that God will never leave your side.Trusting God With the Unknown:
