Overcoming Trials

Scriptures to Speak Over Your Child: 8 Powerful Verses

Not long ago, one of our children was struggling with a challenging school year.  As I aimed to help him navigate the difficult transition, I felt led to begin speaking biblical declarations over his life.  Today, we’ll look at 8 powerful Scriptures to speak over your child as declarations.

These declarations changed the trajectory of our child’s school year.  I pray that they will bless your child as well.

8 Scriptures to Speak Over Your Child

Speaking God’s Word as declarations over our children can lead forces in the heavenly realm to move.  I encourage you to do more than simply read these verses; instead, speak these Scriptures out loud over your child.

Imagine lifting your child before God’s heavenly throne as you speak these Scriptures out loud.  Imagine God’s light and love pouring into your child as spiritual beings in the heavenly realms move according to your prayers.

Scriptures to Speak Over Your Child in All Circumstances

Here are eight powerful Scriptures to speak over your child:

1. Deuteronomy 31:6

The Lord your God is the one who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you.

As you speak these words, pray for life’s struggles to lead your child to find his hope in Christ and not in external circumstances.

Above all else, I want my kids to find their hope in Christ.  My first prayer for them every single day is that their trials will lead them closer to Christ.  I pray they will learn how to find hope in him and not merely in their circumstances.

Declare that God will never leave nor forsake your child.  Also, teach this principle often as you talk with your child.

2. Nehemiah 8:10

The joy of the Lord is your strength.

As you speak these words, pray for your children to find their joy and strength in the Lord.

I want my kids to place their hope in Emmanuel, the God who is always with them.  I also want them to find their joy and strength in him.

Let’s pray for our kids to find their strength in the joy of the Lord.  Pray they will not rely on their own strength as they go about life.  Pray they will find deep joy in the Lord, joy that goes beyond circumstantial happiness.

3. 1 Corinthians 10:13

God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.

As you make this declaration, pray for strength for your child to stand against temptation.

When I pray for my kids to stand against temptation, I claim the promise in this powerful Scripture as a declaration over their lives.

4. 2 Corinthians 6:14

Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness?

When I speak this declaration, I pray that the Lord will provide like-minded friends who will encourage my children in their faith.

By the grace of God, he has answered this prayer for our oldest child.  I trust him to answer it for our younger two sons as well.  This is no small request in today’s world, but God is able.

Declare that your children will walk in the light and have fellowship with other believers in this light.

5. James 4:8

Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.

Declare that as your child draws near to God, he will experience God’s response in drawing near to him.

Pray that he will direct your child’s footsteps, inspire her words, and fill her with strength for whatever is set before her.

6. Matthew 5:14

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.

As you make this declaration, pray that the light of Christ will shine through your child.

Pray for the words, attitudes, and actions of your family as you connect within your sphere of influence.  Ask God to help you glorify Christ as you reach out into the world.

7. Galatians 6:2

Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ.

When I pray this declaration, I decree that my children will be people who walk alongside others in an authentic community.

Declare that your child will help others bear heavy burdens for the glory of God.

8. Romans 5:8

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

When I declare this Scripture over our children, I ask God to help them find their identities in Christ alone.

Ask God to help your children find their worth in the single fact that they are the beloved of Christ. Pray for freedom from the desires to conform to the world, prove themselves to others, or live from achievement-based identities.
