Overcoming Trials

Paralyzed by Fear? 10 Bible Verses for Anxiety and Fear

The amber light of morning finds me through a partially drawn curtain.  Within the first moments of the day, my mind returns to a situation that’s been filling me with anxious thoughts.  “Not today, fear,” I whisper, and I open my Bible in search of Truth.  Instead of meditating on my fears today, I decide to make a list of Bible verses for anxiety and fear and meditate on Truth.

Opening my Bible, I’m reminded that when anxiety and fear come at me, I always have a choice.  I can buckle beneath the weight of my paralyzing emotions—giving the enemy a seat at my table.  Or I can use the emotions as a prompt to send me running to Jesus’ open arms.

As I sit in the morning light, I run to the open arms of my Savior in my weakness.  I also soak in the following Truths.  I pray these verses will help you stand on the Truth in your fearful and anxious moments as well.

Bible Verses for Anxiety and Fear

1. We don’t need to fear those who aim to hurt us for doing what is right.

“Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good? But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. Do no fear their threats; do not be frightened.” 1 Peter 3:13-14

2. God is in control of all things, and nothing will touch us without getting through him first.

“Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.” Matthew 10:29-31

3. God is close when we are hurting.

“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.” Psalm 34:18-19

4. When we tell God what we need, he gives us peace.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

5. Nothing is impossible with God.

“But Jesus looked at them and said to them, ‘With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’” Matthew 19:26

6. Nothing can ever take God’s love away from his children.

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39

7. God will never leave us.

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

8. God will fight for us.

“Do not be afraid of them; the Lord your God himself will fight for you.” Deuteronomy 3:22

9. Jesus promises to give us his peace.

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27

10. God will give us all the strength we need to fulfill his plans for our lives.

“They who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31

I soak in these words until it’s time to move on to the work of the day.

God’s Word anchors my feet on what is true and fills me with hope and strength.  My circumstances haven’t changed, but a new covering of peace goes with me into the unknown.  Nothing will reach me that has not first been filtered through the protective wings of my heavenly Father.

As I stand on this promise, God’s peace covers me, and I find the strength to step into this new day.

Nothing will reach me that has not first been filtered through the protective wings of my heavenly Father. #fear #BibleVersesAboutFear #GodsLove Click To Tweet

I’m passionate about equipping others to encounter God in powerful and life-changing ways. When I’m not writing, you’ll find me hiking, jogging, exploring wild places with my three young children and husband, leading small groups, and mentoring younger women. A certified special education teacher, I am on leave from the classroom for a season of chasing frogs and playing in creeks with my little ones. Most of all, the compassionate love of Jesus has forever ravished my heart, and I'm emphatic about making his love known to the world.
