15 Scriptures to Destroy the Works of the Enemy
Are you searching for powerful Scriptures to destroy the works of the enemy? Let’s dig into God’s Word for 15 powerful Bible verses to help you overcome spiritual attacks. Speak these verses out loud when you sense you are under attack. Satan cannot read our minds, but he submits to the authority of God’s Word.
Scriptures to Destroy the Works of the Enemy
The year I started writing words for the world to read, things began falling to pieces all around us. The kids were constantly rundown with various viruses. There were financial strains, serious health scares, and much more. We faced spiritual attacks without reprieve, and we were worn thin.
We were about ten months into a sequence of difficult events when I heard a single statement through a static-blurred radio station.
I don’t remember who spoke the words or exactly how he phrased them, but the man’s message was this: “Satan is not out to break your car, wreck your finances, or steal your good health. What he really wants to do is cause you to doubt God’s goodness.”
I was three weeks into a very challenging month, and I’d been hashing out the words of 1 Peter 5:8 often: “Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”
Peter’s words spoke truth to my soul, and so did the man on the radio.
The Works of the Enemy
When you’re under spiritual attack, it’s not really about the car, the job, or your health.
Satan’s not out to wreck the transmissions in our cars just for fun. Instead, he’s out to harden our hearts toward God. He wants us to take offense at God and turn away from him.
Scripture offers plenty of examples of what it looks like when we take offense toward God.
When faced with the news that Jesus would suffer and die, Peter was offended.
Knowing that Peter’s faith would soon be challenged, Jesus spoke these words to him, “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded permission to sift you like wheat; but I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail; and you, when once you have turned again, strengthen your brothers” (Luke 22:31-32).
This passage speaks to our spiritual battles in several ways and reminds us that Jesus wants us to remain unoffended.
When he was tempted by Satan in the wilderness, Jesus also taught us to overcome the enemy with the Word of God (see Luke 4). Every time the enemy tempted Jesus, Jesus spoke back with the Word of God.
If you are facing a battle today, speak the following Scriptures to destroy the works of the enemy in your life.
Scriptures to Destroy the Work of the Enemy
1. John 10:10
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”
The first step for overcoming the enemy’s attacks is identifying his work. How can we tell when Satan is on the move?
He comes to destroy. If you are facing the threat of loss, death, or destruction of any sort, Satan is at work.
When you see these forces moving in your life, declare, “In the name of Jesus, I command the forces of evil to leave.”
Stand against all destructive works of the enemy by declaring that you have abundant life in Christ. Begin speaking the verses from this list out loud. Refuse to be intimidated. You have all authority when you speak out in Jesus’ name.
2. Romans 8:37
“In all these things, we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”
No matter what you face today, you are more than a conqueror through Christ. All authority in heaven and earth belongs to him.
If you love Jesus, you have this same authority because you are found in him. Claim it and stand on it.
3. Zechariah 4:6
“‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ says the Lord of hosts.”
The Holy Spirit lives inside every believer. The next time you feel weak or defeated, remember that the Spirit of the Living God dwells within you. Press into this power and ask God to make his power known in your life.
4. Luke 10:19
“Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.”
Jesus gave his followers the authority to overcome all kinds of evil. Claim this Truth when you feel shaken and threatened. The power of Christ reigns in you.
5. 1 Corinthians 15:57
“But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Do you need victory? Speak this verse out loud. Jesus wants you to stand in his victory.
Jesus won the war for every victory you need when he died on the cross and defeated sin. While we wait to be reunited with him, we still face battles, but let’s not forget that Jesus has already won the war.
Overcome the battles you are facing today by declaring that Jesus has already defeated Satan on the cross. Claim this victory for yourself. It is yours.
6. Matthew 18:18-19
“Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.”
Jesus gave his disciples authority in the spiritual realm. We stand in this authority, too.
Let’s not forget to ask God to work in our lives and our circumstances. This verse reminds us to ask God to bring his kingdom to earth as he rules and reigns over all spiritual powers. It also reminds us to unite with others in prayer. When we join together in praying, we are strengthened.
Don’t fight your spiritual battles alone. Find someone who will pray with you.
Bible Verses for Troubled Times and Temptation
7. John 16:33
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
We all face trouble and temptations in life. We can overcome the enemy when these times come by turning to Jesus for help. He has overcome the world. Remember that he earned your victory on the cross. Ask him to strengthen you so you can step into it.
8. 1 Corinthians 10:13
“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”
This verse reminds us that God always offers us a way out in times of temptation. When the enemy aims to destroy you by tempting you, ask God to show you the way out of temptation.
9. Romans 12:21
“Do not be overcome with evil, but overcome evil with good.”
We can overcome evil by simply doing good. Loving well is a powerful way of doing battle on this fallen earth.
10. Revelation 12:11
“And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death.”
Our stories are full of power. When Satan attacks, overcome him by sharing your story with others and with yourself.
Talk about the times when God was faithful in the past. We overcome the enemy by the blood of Christ and the word of our testimonies.
Spiritual Warfare Scriptures for Strength
11. 2 Thessalonians 3:3
“But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.”
Speak this verse when you feel defeated and discouraged. God wants to give you strength. He fights your battles for you.
12. Deuteronomy 28:7
“The Lord will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before you. They shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways.”
A battle is taking place in the unseen spiritual realm. Ask God to defend you in this battle. He lives to fight for you.
13. 1 John 3:8
“…the reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.”
Jesus came to destroy the work of the enemy. Ask him to fight for you. Claim this verse over your life. He will hear your prayer.
14. Deuteronomy 3:22
“Do not fear them, for the Lord your God is the one fighting for you.”
Rest in this.
God is fighting for you. Always. He will never abandon you.
15. Deuteronomy 8:31
“What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?”
This verse speaks for itself. If God is for us, who can overcome us?
Four Applications of These Scriptures to Destroy the Works of the Enemy
Let’s talk about how to apply these Scriptures to the battles we are facing. These verses teach us the following four lessons about life’s battles:
1. Jesus never misses a moment.
Satan isn’t sneaking behind God’s back to inflict our bodies and attack our relationships.
Jesus is fully aware of the enemy’s schemes.
He is also sovereign over Satan’s schemes. Jesus hasn’t missed a moment of the battle you are fighting. Best of all, he is with you. He wants to empower you and help you stand firm.
This truth leads us to the next insight for when we are under spiritual attacks.
2. Jesus prays for us when we are under spiritual attack.
Just as Jesus prayed for Peter’s faith to remain firm, he prays for us.
He lives to intercede for us, and he prays that our faith will not fail in the fires of life.
When Jesus died on the cross, he won the war against the enemy. The battles we face now are somewhat like guerilla warfare. Jesus won the war against evil when he died on the cross and came back to life, but we continue to stand against fiery darts that are still flying.
3. This spiritual attack isn’t really about the circumstances you can see with your eyes.
The enemy isn’t looking to destroy our possessions or make us sick solely for the sake of suffering.
Satan hopes our suffering will harden our hearts.
When trials lead us to offense or bitterness toward God, Satan wins. However, when our trials lead us closer to the heart of our Father in dependence, we win the battles.
4. No matter what happens, you can find victory by doing this . . .
You are in a battle between fear and faith. Worry and trust. Bitterness and love.
What will you choose?
Friend, you can find victory over any spiritual attack by clinging to faith instead of fear. Allow fear to rule you, and you lose the battle. Run to Jesus’ arms and ask him to help you trust him, and you will win this battle!
You might not feel like you can trust Jesus in this situation.
Run to him anyway.
Ask him to help you trust him.
His grace is sufficient when your trust is weak and your faith feels flimsy. Lean into him, and in the very act of leaning into him, you slay the enemy with the weapon that was meant to destroy you.
