The Bible promises that when we seek God, we will find him (Jeremiah 29:13). When we draw near to God, he draws near to us (James 4:8). Today, we’ll explore 10 benefits of seeking God as we explore God’s promises in Scripture.
I invite you to soak in these truths and use them as inspiration in your journey of faith.

10 Benefits of Seeking God
I walk the country roads because I’m searching for God beneath the sapphire skies. The rolling hills and muddied pastures offer space to listen to my soul’s longings.
The farmers are tilling the ground again today. The country roads smell like earth, life, and possibility.
I watch the black soil turn and consider the change that will occur in this very place in a few short months. This bare patch of earth will soon birth corn stalks that reach far above my head.
In a similar way, every time we seek God, seeds are planted. These seeds might not seem significant in the moment, but they will eventually grow to bear fruit in our lives.
Let’s explore this idea as we explore 10 benefits of seeking God.
10 Benefits of Seeking God: Promises From Scripture
1. When we seek God, we find him.
I mentioned this promise at the beginning of today’s post.
When we seek God, we find him (Jeremiah 29:13).
What a wonderful promise! God wants to reveal himself to us. He is waiting for us to respond to his pursuit!
2. We experience the peace that passes understanding.
In his letter to the Philippian church, Paul told these believers to pray about everything. In doing so, God would cover them with the peace that surpasses understanding.
This is a promise for us today as well.
Seek God about everything. He will give you peace!
3. When we seek God, he heals us.
Second Chronicles 7:14 reads, “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land” (ESV).
God wants his people to seek him with repentant hearts.
When we seek God, he heals us.
4. When we seek God, we bring him joy.
God’s greatest desire is for a relationship with each of his children.
In the same way that a good father is overjoyed when his child draws near to him in a loving relationship, God is overjoyed when you draw near to him.
He wants a relationship with you.
5. Our trust in him grows.
Proverbs 3:5-6 reads, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
When we seek God rather than leaning on our human understanding, our trust in him grows.
Trust and faith are closely connected. As our trust grows, our faith deepens.
6. Others are drawn to him through us.
Character is shaped by those with whom we spend time.
Therefore, if we spend time with God, our character will be developed to look more like his character.
God is loving, joyful, patient, kind, and full of goodness. His presence is captivating. As we grow in these characteristics, others will be drawn to God through us.
7. God transforms our hearts.
Seeking God transforms our hearts.
God breaks our hearts for the things that break his heart. We come into alignment with him.
One of the most powerful prayers you can pray as you seek God is: “Father, align my heart with your heart.”
God will answer this prayer, and he will transform you through it.

8. We find freedom.
Spending time with God leads us to freedom from sinful habits and patterns.
Do you want to overcome a sinful pattern?
Turn to God. He will help you.
9. Our lives bear fruit.
When we seek God, he changes us.
Rather than bearing bad fruit, including selfishness and sinfulness, we bear good fruit.
The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).
If you would like these words to describe you, spend time with God. He will transform your life.
10. When we seek God, he works in unseen ways.
The farmer has no sense that his seeds are growing and changing. He simply waits faithfully for the hand of the Creator to draw life from the earth.
Most of us become impatient when the seeds of our lives seem dormant. We want to feel our faith growing, our trust deepening, our surrender widening. Meanwhile, God’s work is often not felt.
Don’t lose heart if it doesn’t feel like your seed is sprouting. He brings dormant things to life without our understanding.
Thank God that he is working in unseen places as you faithfully keep doing what he has asked you to do each day.
