God’s Warrior: Devotions for Boys Who Want to Grow in Courage and Strength
Do you know a boy who would be blessed by a devotional book to help him find strength from God? Our sons, Caleb and Aiden, are excited to join me in announcing the release of our new book, God’s Warrior: Devotions for Boys Who Want to Grow in Courage and Strength.
This devotional book is for sale in print, eBook form, and as a free Kindle download with the Kindle Unlimited plan today. I invite you to read to the end of today’s post to find God’s Warrior as well as our two mother-daughter devotional books.
For the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing devotions from the book as we invite you to take the journey with us. I undertook the majority of the writing in each of these devotions, and Aiden and Caleb offered their insights in the section titled, “Words From a Fellow Warrior.” Here are our thoughts on living with integrity.
Devotions for Boys
Living With Integrity
People with integrity walk safely,
but those who follow crooked paths will be exposed.
Proverbs 10:9, NLT
Imagine you’ve been split into teams for gym class and told you must complete an obstacle course around the school. At various locations around the building, you are to do push-ups, sit-ups, jumping jacks, and other exercises. Your gym teacher will be standing at the finish line in front of the building and will give an award to the first-place team.
As your team runs to the back of the school building, a friend who is on your team offers the following suggestion: “How is anyone ever going to know if we don’t do all the jumping jacks and push-ups? Just do a few as fast as you can and keep going. We’ll win for sure.”
You don’t want to cheat, but you also want to win. You decide to take your friend’s advice and skimp on the exercises. As a result, your team wins, and your teacher gives you popsicles as a reward.
You have a hard time enjoying your popsicle because you know you were dishonest.
We all face times when cutting corners is tempting. These situations will present themselves for the rest of your life. One way to prepare yourself is to learn to be a person of integrity now.
Integrity means choosing to do what’s right even when no one is watching. It involves always being the same kind of person, whether you’re in private or public.
The world needs more people of integrity.
Truth to Stand on:
- Integrity is doing the right thing even when no one is watching.
- God sees everything you do, and nothing is hidden from him.
- People will respect you when you live with integrity.
Words From a Fellow Warrior:
Here are some examples of doing the right thing when no one is watching: Your brother punches you, and instead of punching him back, you walk away; you see five bucks laying on the kitchen floor, and instead of taking it, you give it to your parents; your dad tells you to wash the dishes, and you do the dishes without arguing about it; you see trash on the side of the road and pick it up even when no one is watching. Caleb
Warrior Prayer:
Lord God, thank you for calling me to be a person who is respected. Living with integrity isn’t always easy, especially when my friends are pressuring me to be dishonest. Please help me remember to turn to you when I feel weak in this area and give me the strength to be the same person all the time.
Talk About It:
- Have you ever felt pressured to do something you knew was wrong with the hope that you wouldn’t get caught? How did it turn out?
- Why is it hard to choose integrity over dishonesty?
Action Step:
What is one area where you often feel tempted to cut corners or cheat—like homework, chores, or sports? Make a commitment to do the right thing the next time you face this temptation. You are honoring God with this decision, and he will bless you.
