15 Bible Verses About God’s Power
Here are 15 enlightening Bible verses about God’s power.
Bible Verses About God’s Power
1. Colossians 1:16, ESV
For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.
Everything in the spiritual realm and in the temporal realm was made by Jesus. He has authority over every created being. This is a remarkable truth. No force is stronger than the power of Jesus.
2. Matthew 19:26
But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Nothing is impossible for God.
This is hard to wrap our minds around.
What situation in your life feels most impossible? What if you began praying about this situation and asking God to move?
3. 1 Corinthians 6:14
And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power.
The same power that raised Jesus from the dead dwells within every follower of Christ. This is a remarkable promise.
4. 2 Peter 1:3
His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence.
God promises to give us all we need to live godly lives.
We can claim this promise when we feel discouraged and defeated.
5. 2 Corinthians 13:4
For he was crucified in weakness, but lives by the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but in dealing with you we will live with him by the power of God.
Jesus became weak and died on the cross to take the punishment we deserve. But the cross was not the end of the story. He was resurrected by the power of God.
Similarly, even when we feel weak, God’s power dwells within us.
6. 2 Corinthians 12:9
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
Today’s post is titled, “Don’t Waste Your Weakness.”
We waste our weakness when we try to cover it up or compensate for it with human strength. We might hide behind facades like humor, sarcasm, or perfectionism.
Meanwhile, God has a better invitation. Instead of hiding our weaknesses, he wants us to embrace them, seeing them as the precise areas where he will make his power known in our lives.
7. Jeremiah 10:12
It is he who made the earth by his power, who established the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding stretched out the heavens.
In his power, God made the earth.
He holds all of creation in his hand.
Nothing is too hard for him.
We can cling to this truth when we face situations that feel impossible.
8. Matthew 28:18
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.”
Jesus holds authority over all of heaven and earth. We can pray in his name and possess this same authority if we are his followers.
9. 1 Corinthians 2:5
So that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.
God chose the foolish things of this world to reveal himself. The message of the Gospel is simple enough that even a child can receive it. Yet those who harden their hearts will not understand it.
In this way, faith is not the outcome of human wisdom; it comes through God’s power.
10. Revelation 4:11
“Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.”
Revelation 4 offers a glimpse into heaven’s throne room. Day and night, the creatures gathered around the throne of God speak the words of this verse. These words remind us of God’s character and power.
More Bible Verses About God’s Power in Our Lives
11. Psalm 27:1
The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
We can remind ourselves of this truth when fear threatens us. God is our stronghold. All power belongs to him. We need not fear.
12. Genesis 18:14
Is anything too hard for the Lord? At the appointed time I will return to you, about this time next year, and Sarah shall have a son.
Sarah and Abraham were well past the age for bearing children when God granted his promise to them. Sarah conceived a child and gave birth to Isaac as an elderly woman. This story reminds us that nothing is too hard for God.
13. Isaiah 40:28-31
Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
These verses are powerful Scriptures to speak when we feel weak and weary.
God is with us, and he never gets tired. He is able to give us strength.
14. John 1:1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Jesus has always existed.
He was present with God and the Holy Spirit when they created the earth together.
He is the living Word, and he is all powerful.
15. 2 Corinthians 4:7
But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.
These “jars of clay” are our ordinary human bodies, frail and weak. Within these bodies, we carry the treasure of the Gospel: the good news that Jesus died for us.
The weakness of our bodies reminds us that the power of the Gospel belongs to God, not us.
Let’s take a closer look at what it means to not waste our weakness as we apply these Bible verses about God’s power to our lives.
Applications of These Bible Verses About God’s Power
Most of us respond to God’s pursuit with the expectation that he will use our strengths and talents for his glory. In part, he does use our strengths, but our weaknesses are also an essential part of his program!
The Apostle Paul wrote, “But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us” (2 Corinthians 4:7).
Our suffering, grief, and shortcomings are meant to help others. These are the precise vessels God uses to bring his Kingdom to earth.
Our anxiety, depression, prodigal children, and health problems are not the obstacles they appear to be. These are the very means God uses to heal and help others. In God’s Kingdom, brokenness yields life.
Jesus is the ultimate demonstration of this principle. His body was broken for our sins. Through his brokenness on the cross, God brought us to life.
Furthermore, Jesus did not come to earth riding on the clouds as a ruling King. He came in weakness, born into an ordinary family in a stable where animals were kept.
He willingly became weak so that God’s power might be revealed.
How Not to Waste Your Weakness
What would it look like for us to embrace our weaknesses rather than wasting them?
Here are a few principles.
1. First, we recognize that our weaknesses give God the opportunity to reveal his power.
My short temper is an opportunity for me to turn to Jesus in dependence when I’m tempted to snap at one of our kids.
My addictive personality, battle with anxiety, and insecurities are all opportunities for me to look to God instead of relying on human strength.
This is true for us all. Our weaknesses offer opportunities to lean into God and experience his power.
2. We allow God to use our weaknesses to help other people.
We heal and grow together, not in isolation.
Our weaknesses create solidarity with other people. When they realize we aren’t perfect, they are more comfortable sharing their burdens. We were made to carry one another’s burdens, but this only happens when we are willing to reveal our weaknesses.
When my friends open up about their struggles, I find courage to face my own struggles. This vulnerability creates emotional intimacy, and we grow closer to God together.
Our weaknesses are meant to be vessels that lead us, and others, into God’s all-sufficient arms.

3. We are humbled.
God opposes the proud but exalts the humble. He blesses the poor in spirit.
This poverty of spirit is the humility to recognize how much we need God. Self-sufficiency will never cut it because we were created to live in an interdependent relationship with the Lord.
Our weaknesses humble us, and this is a gift from God.
4. We grow closer to God.
The greatest command is that we love God with all our strength. Ultimately, our weaknesses are meant to lead us deeper in our relationship with God.
When our weaknesses deepen our love for God, our relationship is strengthened. This is God’s greatest hope for each of his children. We find the peace, satisfaction, purpose we crave though an intimate relationship with God. Nothing can replace this.
