8 Life-Changing Prayers for Your Daughter

Last night, I followed my daughter through a withered field of wildflowers as dusk chased us toward the forest.  Often, I silently pray for her as we walk along this trail.  I pray for her friendships, her faith, her worries, and her dreams.  I pray for God to guide our conversations and unite our hearts.  Like me, you might want to pray life-changing prayers for your daughter, but you don’t always know what to pray.

Whether your daughter is two or sixty-two, here are eight biblical prayers for your daughter.

8 Powerful Prayers for Your Daughter

1. Pray that troubles and difficulties lead her to rely on Christ.

Our daughter has faced some tough circumstances throughout the past year.  She’s been stressed out, overwhelmed, and burdened.

As her mom, I’ve tried to help her develop coping skills to weather the storms she is facing; however, I continue to ask God to show me how to point her to Christ.  I want my girl to be strong in the Lord, not strong in her independence.

Pray that life’s troubles will help your daughter rely on Christ, and you are praying a biblical prayer.

2. Pray for a soft heart.

Ask the Lord to help your daughter keep a soft heart.  Ask him to protect her from taking offense when life is difficult.

Years ago, my heart grew hard when I failed to accomplish some of my dreams and goals.  I turned away from God in anger and offense.  Sadly, these were the most difficult years of my life.

Pray for your daughter to keep a soft heart and remain tender toward the Lord.  A soft and malleable heart can protect your daughter from years of painful rebellion.

3. Pray that her desire for the Lord will outweigh her desire for things of this world.

Corporate ladders.  Financial security.  Material possessions.  Perfectionism.  Image-management.  The applause of others.

All of these worldly pursuits compete for your daughter’s heart.  Pray that your daughter’s desire for the Lord will outweigh her desire for anything in this world—even the “good” things.

4. Pray she will grasp her identity as Christ’s beloved daughter.

The truest thing about your daughter is this: She is Christ’s beloved.  Your girl probably feels tempted to find her identity in all sorts of changeable labels.  She is being tempted to find her identity through her accomplishments, talents, gifts, and other achievements.

Pray your daughter will grasp the truest thing about her—the only part of her that can never be stripped away from her.  Pray she will know that above all else, she is Christ’s beloved.  Encourage your girl to live from this identity.

5. Pray she will encounter God as her Refuge.

When life gets tough, it’s tempting to find reprieve in everything this world has to offer.  We turn to entertainment, social media, friendships, comfort food, and other destructive sources of release.

It’s not wrong to turn to friends or watch a TV show with a snack when we need to relax.  However, God wants us to turn to him as our ultimate source of comfort.  Pray your girl will discover practical ways to encounter God as her refuge.

6. Pray for an increase in hunger for God’s Word.

God’s Word changes us from the inside out.  Regardless of the season of life your daughter is facing, pray the Holy Spirit will increase her hunger for Scripture.

Pray she will be passionate about reading, studying, and memorizing God’s Word.  Pray she will hide it in her heart and let it transform her life.

7. Pray for her to be filled to overflowing with the Holy Spirit.

God wants to move in your girl’s life.  He wants to fill her with the Holy Spirit and empower her to carry his love to the world.  Pray for a fresh outpouring of the Spirit to fill your girl and increase her capacity to love God and love others.

8. Pray for Jesus to be Lord and Master in your daughter’s life.

You might not be sure where your daughter stands with the Lord.  Begin by praying that your daughter will understand that Jesus died on the cross to pay the price for her sins.  Pray that she will see her need for a Savior and receive him as Lord and Savior in her life.

If you are confident that your daughter has received Jesus as Savior, pray that she will let him direct and lead her life.  Pray she will surrender every area of her life to him and find deep joy in the surrender.

Don’t be Discouraged and Keep Praying These Prayers for Your Daughter

The Lord is faithful.  He will complete the good work he begins in our children.  Ask him to help you trust him with your girl, surrender her into his loving arms, and keep praying.  The Lord hears the cries of your heart, and he doesn’t miss these prayers for your daughter.

A certified special education teacher, I am on leave from the classroom for a season of chasing frogs and playing in creeks with my little ones. Most of all, the compassionate love of Jesus has forever ravished my heart, and I'm emphatic about making his love known to the world.
